I know that the landscape is a bit smaller than it used to be back in the day, but do you guys currently get any physical gaming magazines?

I recently got a copy of Retro Gamer on a whim because they had a Rayman 2 article advertised on the cover. It ended up being a pretty good read. Sort of took me back to the old days of gaming magazines, where the vibe was just a bit more relaxed.

You guys had any recent experiences with modern day print magazines?

Here there is still one surviving video game magazine I sometimes buy just for its posters lol.

None. It's one thing that there are barely any out there these days but the big problem is that independent folks online consistently outdo people who call themselves professional journalists.

Gaming journalism is pretty much dead. Even if we did still have some big gaming magazines I imagine they wouldn't be worth reading. Back in the old days I loved

Yeah I've just started buying this, starting from issue 1 for now and enjoying it so far.

The last gaming magazine sub I had was Game Informer because it came with my Gamestop Pro Membership. Honestly, those more recent Game Informer mags were shadows of their former selves. They were so generic, so soulless, so bland. I'd glance through them once and then throw them in the trash. This is why I couldn't understand when everyone was acting like they were excited about their return.

I used to love Gamefan, Nintendo Power, OXM w/ demo discs, OPM w/ demo discs, EGM, PC Gamer, etc.

I've been tempted to look into one of these revivalist magazines, particularly one for the C64 since that's the microcomputer that I keep access to.

Back in the day I used to get the UKs Official Nintendo Magazine for a bit, but beyond that I would mostly pick up a mag if it had something in particular that I was interested in reading about. Or if they had Rayman 2 console stickers. That would be another good reason to get an issue lmao

Well I can tell you I'm impressed with issue 1 so I'm gonna order 2 and 3 and so on, only ordered their first issue as a tester and it's a good read. Can highly recommend Pixel Addict and can only assume their other magazines are just as good.

The one I had been looking at was this one, since it's a cheap one to order in the UK:

Yeah I like the look of that. I'm glad there are still some people out there making magazines. That would be right up your street then. You gonna try and start from the beginning like I did or are you just gonna order their latest issue?

As I always say modern game journalism has become trash so I don´t care about modern shit.

How ever I do read allot of older magazines.
Disc Station
Tech Gian
Arcadia
Comptiq

They are interesting to read and the best part they talk about games which seams to be a crime to do today.

The only gaming mag I (very) occasionally flip open is Retro Gamer through a library app (which I'd highly recommend. All you need is a local library card for something like Libby to connect to your library's digital collection) when I'm on a bus or train or something. It's a decent read, albeit I only read the articles dedicated to games from generations I grew up with.

I used to read that more often too a while ago although I have 2 more issues due as I got a special off of 3 issues for £1. I prefer physical magazines as for some reason it's not the same on a screen.

Oh yeah, I prefer physical magazines too, but it fills a purpose of killing time when I don't have anything better to really scroll through. Plus it gives me some ideas of what I could boot up in my downtime if anything catches my eye.

Yeah I see.

yeah I swapped from the physical mag to using this service via some app called PressReader.

It's pretty great, though honestly the lack of tactile feedback makes it less enjoyable than a real magazine. Still, it's great getting to read about some of the older games I enjoy, as well as some of the new fan-based stuff that's on the horizon for older hardware.

Is it GRIND magazine by any chance?
Nah, never set foot in Romania but I had a friend from there that last time I spoke to him which it been 2 years he bought a katana for self-defense due to wild european west lolol.

Oh, sorry then. I thought you were Romanian for some reason.

Yes, I may have the aura of a person who lived for centuries like a vampire lolol.
Maybe you do, but I can assure you that wasn't why I thought you were Romanian. Anyway, I'm derailing this thread—let me take my ass somewhere else.
Peace Out Goodbye GIF
