That's the game that got referenced in Smash Ultimate!

As an extra note, current builds of Xenia Canary finally run Culdcept Saga correctly, without slowdowns or corrupted graphics. It's a great entry so it's a fine time to jump in.

It's no coincidence that card games are so popular today; this could be considered an indie game if it were released now.
Just curious, what do you mean by "it's no coincidence"? What do you think is the reason for card games being popular nowadays?

It seems the most complete version of the first game is this one, Culdcept Expansion Plus for the PS1. I wonder why they didn't use this, instead, for the multiplatform release.

Edit: That said, after some more researching, it turns out that the most well balanced version of the first game is actually on the DS! balance was revised across the board to allow for a broader strategic depth. So there you go; the patch is fully playable, if a little unsightly in places due to some remnants of Japanese in the UI. Thankfully, the important parts are translated.

So the TL;DR: For Culdcept 1, DS, for Culdcept 2, PS2. Culdcept 3 (Saga) and 4 (Revolt) were exclusive to the 360 and 3DS respectively and didn't receive any revised versions after they were first released.

I don't know how to tell this to the translator so i hope this helps:

Lilith has an error on the translation. In Battle: ST= (number of deals x10).
but it should be: ST= (number of cards in user's hand x10).

found this page with all the info: https://culdceptcentral.com/2026-02...ps2dc-card-lists/869-cps2-cardlists-creatures

You should probably post that in the Steam comments section for the game or reach out to Andyman in the Culdcept Discord (he is a seasoned player and seems to be in close contact with the devs).

NGL, "Culdcept" sounds like a prescription canker sore treatment.

Haha I suppose it's a portmanteau of Culdra (the creator goddess on the cover there) and Cepter, the name of the summoners in the game that are able to use mana to bring creatures to life from card as well as equipment and magic (the cards).

Not that anyone asked, but I did the Steam demo of this earlier today. It's... weird. It felt like emulation, and sure enough, look at the .bin, .cdda, and .cue in the root directory:

The opening movie wasn't translated, and the English voiceover during it was hard to hear at times due to the music, but there was English everywhere else.

Crashy crashy, though. It froze when pressing start on the title screen, so I swapped it to Proton Experimental. I managed to play a full match in story mode, then it froze when trying to edit the deck! Weirdly, it'd only freeze during transitions, so I was stuck with a black screen (and the special keys to interact with the emulator did nothing, too).
It is emulation, yes. The Saturn version I believe.

Also, they will re-release Culdcept 1 on PC and consoles in about 6 weeks

This game is hard? Work has drained almost my entire energy
Against the AI it can be difficult at times because of dice rolls, but the game does give you ways to manipulate the board.

Awesome!
Even though I already own this one, it's nice to know that more people get to try Culdcept.
Hope they port this one and Revolt to Steam too, these kinds of games are perfect for handheld PC.

I don't know why it's got cancel though, probably coz it's lose to other TCG at the time.

Card games feel like they would do far better on a tablet. As for consoles, the bigger draw is action adventure or RPG games, not card games (Not that Yu-Gi-Oh or other card games couldn't work...)

Probably just a numbers game. The expected sales (based on the last one) wasn't worth the time investment.

I'm really eager for the new upcoming Culdcept games even tho I can't play it.

I have the Manga, all 6 volume of it and it sad to see it's never have proper ending coz it's got cancel and that in 2007, I don't know why it's got cancel though, probably coz it's lose to other TCG at the time.

I was kinda going to request this at some point. Great add!

New Culdcept on PC? Cool. I played the one on 360 and liked it. I've gotten this one elsewhere and liked it. The game is a bit slow but is still enjoyable. I think it is more enjoyable if you have someone else playing it and you play with or against them occasionally (My brother actually got me interested with the 360 version).

I have played the DS version! It was great! 🌟
Probably this should good too!
Yeah, it's fairly solid. An improved Culdcept 2 (the Japanese name is far more indicative of this). Also, they will re-release Culdcept 1 on PC and consoles in about 6 weeks, and I do believe there is a whole new entry coming, too. The third was on 360, the 4th was Culdcept Revolt on 3DS.

The reason I added this is twofold: for one, the only other Culdcept here is an incomplete patch for the DS version, which itself is a port of the first Culdcept (originally a Saturn/Playstation game).

This is an improved port of the sequel, Culdcept Second, originally released for the Dreamcast only in Japan.
