Croc is being remastered

So Steam, That's usually how that works for as long as it works without having to constantly rebuy it and is why I think Microsoft is right for championing forwards compatibility with their titles on console. On steam I would happily rebuy a game released on a console from the early 2000s era to be able to install with one click, and plug in a controller to play. We also need to consider in this case, Croc was considered abandonware for the longest time before this.
I'd rather staple my face shut then have anything to do with Steam.

as i already saw on a couple of the post announcement press releases, lotta commentors seemed to go "ew yucky why does this look so terrible" at screenshots that were just croc ps1 at a modern resolution.

i think this one moreso than other comprarble 'remasters' will explictly need a like 'swap between original and updated graphics' and the original includes a scronkly CRT filter or people finna bust a brain vessel imo

"ew yucky tank controls" etc etc this one will be divisive i think

Argonaut Software has announced the release date Croc Remastered Edition with a April 2nd release date... Probably not a best date to release a game during Nintendo Switch 2's big presentation. But what do you think? Will you be picking up this classic PS1/Saturn game? Or wait after the Switch 2's presentation?
I’m really looking forward to this. It’s my most anticipated remaster by far.

respectfully, why though? I see a lot of others share this sentiment, but playing croc, especially for a the demographic that would freqeuent this forum, is approximately 15 seconds away from running upscaled in an emulator.

I will reiterate the convenience factor. One click to install game.

i understand that but the convenience should presumably already be there for Croc superfans whomst this would be a highly anticipated release. it would take couple minutes tops of effort to drag croc1.iso into whatever you already have.

it is that very convenience factor reason contributing as to why we've gotten and continue to recieve kinda benign remasters

not everyone is a poweruser i get it but i would've assumed the demographic here would lean more on the "fuck remasters i've already done been playing it" crowd

Well personally it's not a high anticipation release by any means, like I didn't ask for this but I won't look at this and go "how dare you even bother."

I remember this from people complaining that it was less known than Banjo-Kazooie, despite selling about the same amount, and thus somehow proving the existence of Nintendo-centric bias among retro gamers.

i do love if Croc somehow contributed to console war discourse, as it was originally a 3rd party Yoshi title that nintendo shelved then themselves became heavily inspired by for mario64.

God I remember at least a quarter of my PS1 library were Fox Interactive published Video Games. Die Hard Trilogy 2, Croc 1 & 2, Micro Maniacs...

It was also going to be a 3D Yoshi game for Nintendo 64, but Nintendo denied the project.

Argonaut has been dead for 20 years, now?
It was a great studio that really pushed the hardware to the limit back in the days. Alien Resurection being the best looking FPS on PSX.

I don't know who's wearing that Argonaut's skin nowadays, but it seems kind of cheap to go the remaster cashgrab route.

No it would be cheap to take their IPs and make low tier mobile games from it based on Asset Flips

Yeah, well, an asset flip would at least mean new maps and gameplay. We got a remaster, it's even cheaper.

The original founder, Jez Sen. Lots of the original team are back together.

Yeah basically the same guy at the helm that made the whole thing sink. Exciting news really. Croc Remaster GOTY. XD

I don't see a problem with it, their mission statement is agreeable, I like their games and innovations, plus they strike fear into the heart of all Banjo Kazooie fans.

The behind-the-scenes stuff and new interviews with the old geezers who made the game sounds really neat. I always enjoy stuff like that.

I only read the announcement pdf on their site. Sounded like standard marketing, they're relly excitedTM. I *liked* their games and innovations as well. We've yet to see how this one will go, hopefully I'm wrong.

Speaking of Argonaut's innovations, I still have to play Starfox 64's glorious PC port and I'm in the middle of a run of Alien Resurrection on Duckstation, upscaled, 60 fps and stereoscopic 3D / VR. This game is really vicious, I love it and I'm sure they'll never remaster it.

I'm happy this game is relevant again. I'm just worried it will be hated again because of the tank controls.

One year later, I am now hoping for a remaster of Croc 2 next, since this was surprisingly decent. Certainly not Nightdive tier but no other remasters are.

I loved banging through Croc on my PSP a while ago; thought it was a fun 90's cutie mascot romp! Actually kind of excited!
