for me i can't think of too many but fake vegeta in dbz budokai 1 on hardest difficulty and the final 6 in yugioh forbidden memories come to mind, the rest of namek saga on hardest are no near as bad,and with the final 6 they especially seto and after that have very big chances to start with the strongest monsters in the game and have the strongest spells, have blue-eyes ultimate dragon or black-meteor dragon and have raigeki ,and if u lose to one of them ur gonna have to start all the way from the begining of the final 6,it's literally the thing that kills so many speedruns for forbidden memories and u either grind or keep playing a luck game until all 6 of them give u good rng,ik forbidden memories as a whole is grindy and rng based, but the first half and even most of the second half of it aren't that hard, but the final 6 are just too insane
Fighting all four of the bosses in the next to last stage of Double Dragon Revive. This boss fight sucks when playing solo, even when you know what to do. I lost almost as much when I fought Machine Gun Willy afterward.
I beat re2 og the other day. And I have to say the super tyrant boss was a massive spike for me. He constantly charges at you, and the hit boxes are really wacky.

they really said "let's give that real arcade design they miss so much" and by that i mean the coin eating design where it's meant to eat ur coins so fast

oh yeah i remember that,im pretty sure its for horror reasons which they succeeded in,difficulty especially spike in it can really give a fear factor but only for so long before it becomes just annoying
Mario Kart World's BS adaptive difficulty when you don't play the game like someone who's never played Mario Kart.
It'll run scripted sequences breaking it's own rules and physics to kill you
Multiple publications have whole articles about how messed up ti is.
I swear I was wiping the floor with everything that made the mistake of crossing my path, then next thing you know I have to kill his minions before the timer runs out. The last batch of minions needed to be dispatched simultaneously or he just called new ones. Being overlevelled truly dulls the mind...
I had to repeat that battle twice before I beat it, so it wasn't even a fluke! At least this gave me the chance to finally see the game's game over screen. (spoiler: the game doesn't even have one, just asks you if you wanna reload; come on, game, rub my nose into it, I deserve it!)
The difficulty in the game is out of whack. The first dungeon in the game, the underground, is easily the hardest in the game, and after it the game gets easier and easier until it becomes a cakewalk.
On the other hand, SMT IV: Apocalypse is managable until you face the final boss, where the difficulty spikes to an absurd level. Never beat it.

i beat it first try without even knowing about the fight (no guides at all my first run because i knew i was gonna play new game plus anyway) i really said "huh that was easy" right after.
i was in shock when online people struggled on it, for real
I wonder if i just level grinded a whole lot, i do spend time doing all possible persona fusions before moving on, and enough money to buy every best weapon, gun, and armor (which would then screw me
everytime i did this fight joker had ALL multitarget element skills ON ROYAL the fight is easier on merciless mode since you do more weakness damage
(highly valid to use in my book if you're stuck)

i still say Nocturne is harder, Matador is a super HARD WALL that a lot of people quit the game on, or put easy mode, i didn't give up but i DID grind almost 8 hours to do fusions to make it easier.
then i quit when i walled on Raidou (dante if you're playing that version is the same fight exactly)

i strugged on Etrian odyssey 1 and 2 (original DS versions had no difficulty settings, story mode, or easy "picnic" difficulty like the 3ds remakes and sequels do)
i beat stratum 1 (first dungeon) with a decent couple days grind, and immediately stratum 2 was such a pain in the ass it killed my mood to continue,
EO2 i was raging on the first stratum
btw both games i used a guide and recommended party setup as i could find online.
i beat EO nexus on 3DS on the easiest mode, it was STILL plenty hard and really grindy.
Probably Brock from Pokemon Yellow. I mean, at this point of the game, a beginner would likley only have Pikachu and had no idea that Nidoran was the best one for the fight. Well, that happened to me when I was six :(. I remember defeating Geodude with Pikachu and I thought that I was done... but then Onix showed up and I was caught off-guard.

I was just playing this again, i used pidgey somehow gust works good on onix
sand attack works wonders too and tail whip before pika or whoever else can use it dies
looked it up, you can use confusion on butterfree, mankey's low kick, rattata hyper fang
the least grindy method is 1 or more nidorans though apparently
you can catch a lv9 pidgeotto (that makes no sense LOL) in viridian forest, his stats are absurd but its a rare encounter!

DUDE i was playing mortal kombat legacy Kollection
seriously what the FUCK with that AI difficulty!!? input reading heavily, when WITH A REWIND BUTTON i was getting my ass kicked so hard on MK2 arcade on EASIEST difficulty, im talking FIGHT 1
and then i managed to get to shao khan and no matter how much rewinding bullshit did he massively kicks your ass, i have no clue how to even beat the fight, EASIEST difficulty again...
SNES MK2 is much MUCH easier to beat and i did so right after that, holy shit!
UMK3 is kinda crazy too but YOU can do so much more if not 100% combo kill the AI with a good strategy
every single MK game, jump kicks seem to ruin the AI
