Console ports of arcade games that are objectively superior?

And when I say superior I don't say "arcade perfect" (since it was easier around the Dreamcast era) but ports that added features that improved upon the game (regardless if it unbalances the game).

Modern compilations are just arcade ports without any new additions which is a bit too bad when back then they were willing to add new content to compensate for the fewer animation frames or background resolution.
Altered Beast for Mega Drive in my opinion

Edit: And Double Dragon for NES

Most fighting games are on the list due to the added modes, being able to edit difficulty, timer, etc. Graphics and animations may not always be up to snuff like the Arcade, but the trade off is worth it most of the time.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 for the World Tour Mode
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure on the PSX for the complete Story Mode
Soul Calibur for all those extra modes, and goodies.
Tekken 3, ditto. Beach Ball Mode is worth it alone.

People don't usually mention Darkstalkers 3 on the PS1 given that the Saturn got an arcade perfect port, but the PS1 version has a cool mode where you can build up a fighter like in an rpg. You can take a weak fighter like Lilith and make her super powerful.

Also, I gotta mention OpenBOR. They are not technically ports but just fan made games using assets from other games. This right here is way better than the Avengers arcade game and it's still just in a demo state which is crazy

I'd be tempted to try those modes like World Tour.

Street Fighter Alpha Anthology (PS2) - Offers a second secret better arcade mode for all of the alpha games (Lets you fight and encounter secret characters in arcade mode), has Hyper Street Fighter Alpha hidden in it for having match ups with every incarnation and ISM of all the characters in every SFA game (with the exception of MAX characters). Doesn't have World Tour BUT...(See SFA3 Max below)

Vampire Collection (PS2) - It's a shame they didn't release a U.S. version. Offers a 2nd better arcade version for all of the Vampire Savior 1, 2 and Vampire Hunter 2 games where every Darkstalker character is available. (Some characters were cut off in the default original arcade games). Also has a secret exclusive character: Dee who was Donavan in the older games but succumbed to his vampire blood. And he is REALLY difficult to beat. Dee also has a never before seen ending that has the fans speculating on the final fate of Donovan.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max - Released nearly simultaneously with Street Fighter Alpha Anthology. SFA3 Max on PSP has the World tour Street Fighter Alpha Anthology didn't get. Also gets 4 characters, Yun, Maki, Eagle and Ingrid. The recently released Capcom Fighting Collection 2 adds these characters for current gen players but not the special modes, like Reverse Dramatic Battle mode (where you fight 2 characters at the same time), Free Battle mode where you can fight any combination of characters: 1 vs 1, 1 vs 2, 2 vs. 1, definitely one of my favorite modes especially 1 vs 2. Ex: You'll go insane if you're a Zangief player and have to fight Yun and Fei Long at the same time on highest difficulty. Also has Variable mode or Tag Team mode vs. game style. My most played mode is Tag team Survival mode.

Vampire Chronicles on PSP - Released also near simultaneously with Vampire Collection. Similar to the aforementioned Hyper Street Fighter Alpha, lets you pick any Darkstalker character from any game. Ex. Demitri has real fireballs from Darkstalkers 1 and Vampire Hunter but a lame looking flying fire bat in Vampire Savior, VS2 and VH2. You can now pick any version of Demitri or any other character for arcade mode. Also has Chaos Tower, a World Tour like mode for Darkstalkers but considerably more difficult since you don't regain life at default between matches.
