For recruits: This is what Commandos Origins is all about
Here's a short introduction if you've never played any of the Commandos games. At the start of each mission, you take command of several commandos - in the first few missions, there are two. The most important, because the most used, is the Green Beret he has unique abilities. Also in Mission 1: the Pioneer. He can, for example, cut through fences and handle explosives. With these men, you are supposed to infiltrate fortresses, factories, or other installations and complete your mission against overwhelming enemy numbers. The goal of many missions: blow up enemy technology. To keep you up to date on what's happeningthe game has an overview map of the entire area in the bottom right corner of the screen and you can zoom in on if needed. You can also right-click on an enemy to reveal their field of vision, allowing you to see exactly where they're looking allowing you to safely approach or sneak past them. Also possible and often necessary is planning joint actions with multiple commandos. For example two men can attack and kill or knock down two enemies simultaneously. The Game challenges become more challenging from mission to mission and there are three difficulty levels if something is too easy for you.
For experienced Commandos: This is new
The latest game you have the following six Commandos at your disposal some of them which you won't see for the first time until several hours of playing time. In addition to the Green Beret the Pioneer and the Sniper there is also the Driver the Marine and the Spy: all familiar specialists from the older games but some with new skills. The Green Beret is still the one you will complete the majority of missions with. The new developers at Claymore Games have moved away from a continuous storyline like the one the Spanish team told in Commandos 3: Destination Berlin and have once again opted for individual and unrelated missions.Your men can use some items to create "accidents." Changes to the individual commandos are manageable and generally provide new tactical options. For example the sniper's rifle can now penetrate two enemy bodies at once. The biggest change is the scope. While the first missions used to be quite quick for resourceful commanders missions 2 and 3 now take considerably longer than before because they're significantly larger.
The graphics and controls: All retro, baby!
The new team has polished things up a bit and provided the classic tools: You can rotate the map zoom in and out and if you're close enough to a building with a commando you can even peer inside. There's also a 4K graphics resolution. The game still looks almost identical to the first game in the series from 1998. So there's definitely plenty of nostalgia for old fans. The detailed maps are quite large right from the start - a lot of work for your commandos. The retro factor is good on the one hand but it unfortunately feels a bit dated on the other. This is especially true when it comes to motivation. Due to the lack of a coherent story because you probably won't be particularly motivated to find out what happens next after a long mission. The new game offers the opportunity to progress without killing enemies, simply by knocking them out. However this is significantly more difficult because they wake up again after a while and then sound the alarm.
Planning is everything
As always saving frequently is the key to success and very importent. A separate save game after each section is recommended and quick-save and load as often as possible at least every few minutes. Because being discovered and then triggered an alarm almost certainly spells doom for your men.By right-clicking you can display the field of vision (green) of enemies. The second recipe for a good success is precise planning. These maneuvers are especially important if you want to make a splash on Veteran difficulty.
