I've recently been playing Comix Zone and I'm really enjoying it. It's still to this day very original, the way you play inside a comic book, jumping from frame to frame, defeating enemies drawn by the villain's hand and choosing which frame to jump to, giving you different paths through each stage, is very cool.
Each stage is a real comic book page. It's an innovative game design to this day.

The only game I can think of that has done something similar is FPS XIII, which uses cel-shading and text balloons to create a comic book aesthetic, but Comix Zone goes further in my opinion; not only does the game look like a comic book, but you play inside one.

And what about the grunge soundtrack? I've always been a fan of this style and to see a game with this sound is fantastic. There's an official bonus CD with versions of tracks from the game played by a band, and it sounds exactly like a grunge band, albeit a bit generic.
I've included some links, to the soundtrack, the manual and the bonus comic book published in a British magazine.

Billy Times Games also recently released a hack that doubles or triples the protagonist's damage.

Oh man, this is one of my favorite games. The first time I've played it on GBA, it really looks amazing for it's time (especially the sprites)

Really cool game! Creative use of panels ::dkapproves

Comix Zone is another game of Genesis who was part of my childhood. The game was one of my presents I got during my 5-year old birthday by a cousin of my family who in that time are lived close to my home in an appartment. In my first game play, seeing the protagonist traveling between comic book frames to confront monsters, solving few puzzles or discovering a way to escape from a death trap acted like a interactive movie in my eyes. But I have many difficulties to pass in harder stages, and I counted with my cousing to beat the game(there are 2 endings).

I understand for happiness Sega of America gained points to turn Comix Zone as one of best games produced by an american division of a japanese company. Sega, in early 90's, have his Technical Institute and those same produced incredible games who formed legions of fans around the world and in Japan too. And I and we don't forgot the amazing work Howard Drossin done with this game - he also worked in the Manx TT Superbike and Sonic The Hedgehog 3 soundtracks, in wich he have inspirations of Michael Jackson to compose some tunes.
