What's a game that had clever ways of censorship
The first that comes to mind for me is dragon ball origins using the ds screen divider to cover up bulma's moist critic hole

All I can remember is Nier Automata. The character punches the camera away to avoid player seeing under her skirt lol and then the game wanna censor you in real life by announcing your pervert act via Steam achievement lol. However this is a nonsense censorship because basically "no way" to see under her skirt while she standing anyway but you can trigger this BS achievement just by looking around. While "punch away camera" stuff is clever, the idea behind it is not lol. If developers were that conservative they had to cover whole body of the robot then lolol.

I'm partial to the "zombies" in Carmageddon.
Hate censorship, but always thought that it was kinda funny how easy it was. Plus (unless I'm mistaken) the trend of green blood started there.
Also, not censorship, but honorable mention to the naked Lara Croft cheat in Tomb Raider 2 that blows your character up is hilarious.

Everything about Deadpool 2013 was Clever. Such a pleasant game.
Never understood the hate. The endless qips were, well endless, but that's Deadpool for you.
Plus still remember laughing out loud during the "slap Wolverine qte".

Unfortunately the green blood censorship thing was already there in Castlevania IV and the only thing clever about it was the Japanese version.

As much as I love the older Castlevanias (my first "full" experience was finishing AOS) I've never played them enough to know that. What was the JAP censorship that was clever?

Seeing the nastier bad words getting censored in N64's Conker's Bad Fur with those beeps and those colorful anmiated cartoonish symbols was kinda funny. The Xbox version overdid the censoring though.

German Turok made the game even cooler by making the humans be toasters. Robots vs dinosaurs is a lot better than meatsacks vs dinosaurs.

when sony when on there crazy censor ship bullshit there were 2 games in the neptuina series. 2 images were altered. also sister vs sister game had them not able to swear at all. and it hurt's the pride of one my fav game charcter's not being able to run her mouth off has much.

I find funny how they censured Poison and Roxy to be male gangsters in the SNES port of Final Fight

i think that it is meant to be more of a joke. lollipop chainsaw does something similar, you can try to look up juliet's skirt and if you do so for about 30 seconds, she says something and you get an achievement for it.
i think developers are aware of the things players do when they play the game. in super smash bros melee, you can see peach and zelda's panties under their dresses. nintendo learned about this and straight up put a pitch black shadow area under their dresses from brawl onwards. in dissidia012, the camera in the character viewer zoom in is far more restricted on tifa. no other female character has this restriction on them, just tifa. dragon ball xenoverse 2 had a patch drop that makes female characters fade out if the camera gets too close to them. there's probably a lot more examples than what i listed of this kind of stuff happening.

Not exactly.
Between Super Smash Bros. Brawl & Super Smash Bros. 4 3DS/Wii U, the Japanese game rating bureau (CERO) became a bit more purityranical in their approach to rating games. As Masahiro Sakura, stated during an interview a few years ago:

Sakurai: One of the first things they say in overseas ratings reviews is “no guns”—that I can understand. But in Japan, they immediately ask “could you show us all the female characters upside-down?”

Interviewer: Well, that’s, uh… Are they checking for panty shots?

Sakurai: Precisely. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U almost didn’t make its scheduled release date because of ratings issues. We had to revise Palutena and Wonder Pink’s models over and over again.
Interviewer: All because you might be able to see up their skirts? Seriously?

Sakurai: We had Palutena wearing shorts and made the inside of Wonder Pink’s skirt too dark to see anything. Nevertheless, CERO told us the designs were “sexually provocative.” They were being ridiculous and frankly quite juvenile.

Oh, and here's a pic of Sakurai mocking CERO on Twitter/X:

This is why we're seeing censorship in non-D/Z-rated games coming out of Japan. In Japan, Brawl has an A rating, meaning suitable for all ages. This is the same rating that Smash 4 received. What changed wasn't the developer, but what the developer was allowed to include by a changing ratings board.

Now, as for Dissidia, a game that received a C-rating for both PSP titles, that's a bit more interesting. By all appearances after an extensive and completely exhaustive 5-second Google search, I could find no stated reason why Square-Enix was so against fan service in these titles. It could be due to wanting to keep the rating below D (and I'm uncertain when CERO changed their upskirt policies, either - Brawl was released in '08 with plenty of granny-panty upskirt, Dissidia was released in '09, Dissidia 012 was released in '11, and 4 was released in '14). It could be what modern YouTubers call the "woke mindrot" creeping in to SquareEnix. Or, it could be that the company is more "protective" of their female fannies - Tifa didn't exactly have much in the way of upskirt fanservice in Ehrgeiz on the PS, either.

However, long story short: CENSOR CENSORSHIT

i really don't like it when they don't let me see that type of thing and that they should change their minds and let me. people who don't like it should learn to turn away from video games.

usually, the people going out of their way to make it a problem are just seeking attention and want to "feel" like they did something important. it would be best to ignore them, but game devs and companies always give in to their demands. usually people try to sue them if they don't listen and bow down to their demands.

yea its insane. they have no interest in making anything without that kind of thing, so instead they want it removed. there was awhile ago an interview with devs/publishers of the dragon's quest 3 remake and they mentioned how they have to make all these changes for over seas calling the US "such a troublesome country." he's not wrong.
