I dunno if anybody's done this yet but here we go. The Clayfighter fan thread. I don't have much else to add but please share your opinions on this hidden Clay molded gem of a S-NES game.

This game and Primal Rage really caught my imagination with its stop motion style. I played this one the most, but I was never good at ClayFighter. The limit of my skill back then was being able to do Scorpion's "get over here", so learning ClayFighter on top of that was beyond me.

Primal Rage kicked so much ass! I really liked Talon and Vertigo. The concept of Mortal Kombat meets Jurassic Park was so surreal

I never played it, but it's hard to argue with the amount of creativity and love that went into this one.

I see it as a big parody of the fighting game genre and its tropes: everything is so self serious in most games of this type, and CF willfully does the very opposite.

I think some of it is trying to cash in on the success of 1992's Mortal Kombat, while still grabbing your attention. ClayFighter didn't do as well as Killer Instinct, but its alot more memorable than something like Ballz 3D or Time Killers.

IMO all those Western-made fighters were pretty bad once you got past the violent/cool factor (with Killer Instinct being maybe the best). Even Mortal Kombat is so stiff and clunky in retrospect. But since it's a fan thread, I'll mention that I did think the evil snowman was pretty cool when I was 7.

Definitely! Ballz is... very hard to even classify as anything more than an even more down to the gutter parody (but they get kudos for being self aware) and, if you want to be charitable, even a technological showpiece - it is kind of impressive the kinds of effects it pushes.

I think stuff like Time Killers and the Mega Drive version of TMNT: TE are pretty worthy rivals when it comes to terrible fighting games.

I pretty much enjoyed ClayFighter (and its fellow spinoff game Claymates) when it first came out and that I needed to take a break from constantly playing both Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat.

The sequel, ClayFighter 2: Judgment Clay was okay, but it got rid of nearly the entire roster from the first game (with the exception of Frosty, Blob, and Tiny) and the new characters (with the exception of Hoppy) didn't have the charm or appeal of the original roster.

The third game, ClayFighter 63⅓ / Sculptor's Cut was a good improvement (bringing back Ickybod Clay, Taffy, and Bonker while also adding in Earthworm Jim and Boogerman was definitely the right call to help the game out) and I say that it was probably one of the better N64 fighting games.

I'll admit that Shaq Fu and TMNT: TE aren't exactly the best fighting games for the Genesis, but if there's one thing that some people may agree upon, both games at least had some great music.
