Childhood difficulty?

I could never make it far in Comix Zone as a kid. When I got serious about beating it as an adult it took me two days. I can't say it's easy, it's not, but once you know how to fight reasonably well, where to search for items, and what are the best paths to take, it's not crazy hard either.

Majority of games are like this for me, I'm not particularly skilled in any genre and I only beat them with brute force through sheer tenacity and trial and error. TMNT on Snes and Tomba on PS1 comes to mind, took 2 years to beat the former and 3/4 years for the latter when I was just a small brat, and I only played during weekends.

It's usually the opposite for me, especially with NES games. I find it hard to believe I beat Contra 1 and Castlevania 1 and 3 as a kid without cheats, but that's what you do when you have infinite time and limited games. Every time I play them these days I get my ass kicked.

The most frustrating gameplay experience was finishing Kid Icarus in one go without codes. Must have had nerves of steel back then. Especially the boss stages today would wreck my nerves.

Metroid 1 was the opposite. I could finish it in one go, around 4 hours and really liked it.

Same for TMNT1&2, SMB1-3, Zelda 2 and Castlevania 3.

Could play 6 hours straight and finish those demanding games without pause. Now I get tired after 20-30 minutes

I In my case it would be the First Rockman X/Mega Man X who could not defeat Vava/Vile both in the first and second confrontations because he had a ride armor although he hurt him supposedly even with the loaded shot he was invincible and you had to forcibly let yourself be defeated by him if you want to continue with the story and hope Zero saved your life but in the third confrontation with him without his ride armor I could not defeat him as a child either because his attacks were fast and I didn't have time to avoid their attacks and I always lost and also because I wasn't prepared enough to defeat Vava/Vile because I was missing 3 hearts, the part of the arm that added the level 3 charged shot and the secret enhancement that is Hadouken and some sub-tanks as well, but over time I was able to beat Vava/Vile with the Rolling Shield which was his weakness from which he lowered 6 pts. of life and so I defeated him and finally I was able to advance the 1st Stage of Sigma's Fortress although in the part where you have to go up to face the first irregular/maverick it was tedious because there were enemies also that bothered me and I even had to use the Tornado Storm Charged to get rid of above enemies and as well as the appropriate distance to jump from one wall to the otherbut over time I was able to beat Vava/Vile with the Rolling Shield which was his weakness from which he lowered 6 pts. of life and so I defeated him and finally I was able to advance the 1st Stage of Sigma's Fortress although in the part where you have to go up to face the first irregular/maverick I don't remember what it was but it was tedious because there were enemies also that bothered me and I even had to use the Tornado Storm Charged to get rid of above enemies and as well as the appropriate distance to jump from one wall to the other because it's somewhat extensive but I was able to get there anyway.
