Chess games

Does anyone know a chess game that has cool animations, like the pieces actually fight or do something fun? Would be awesome if it also had some built in lessons or tutorials, but either/or is totally fine.

I’m kinda disappointed I can’t find any anime chess games where the pieces fight it out. At this point I’m wondering if I’m better off just playing some sort of tactics or strategy game instead.

Battle Chess for Amiga has what you're looking for. Iirc it got remastered for Steam a while back if you can't be bothered to emulate the original.

not cool animations but 4d chess with multiverse and time travel on steam is great for bending your mind

up until i saw this thread i only knew about the star wars version and didn't know there was a non star wars version

Can't imagine Japan making a Battle Chess clone instead of something for mahjong, shogi or go. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Plenty of other clones though. Most interestingly there was Terminator 2 version for DOS and games on both N64 (I remember seeing the ugly boxart in magazine ads) and PS2.
