Character Derailment

I had no idea about this, yikes! ?
If you'd like to know more, look up the writer Devin Grayson. She's almost single-handedly responsible for tanking Nightwing's first solo series because she spent her whole career at DC tearing down what the previous writer built up. The most egregious examples are:
  • Blowing up Dick's apartment building and most of his supporting cast along with it
  • Killing his primary villain, Blockbuster
  • Having Tarantula, an up-and-coming hero Nightwing was mentoring, rape him after she killed Blockbuster
  • Ruined his relationship with Barbara Gordon (Oracle)
It goes on.

I would have to say Seymour Guado from Final Fantasy X.
To me he started out as just shady, but seemed to go full on bad-guy for pretty shallow reasons.

In fact I would add Sephiroth from FF7 PS1. (is that how I dignify that...)
That one was so bad, they ended up trying to fix it with Crisis Core, which ended up coming out forced. It was bad.

And to a lesser extend Seifer Almasy from FF 8. With him there were a couple of hints, but nothing well defined.

Seems it's sort of a trope from Squre-Enix.

Honestly, I'm a bit worried about Pirate Yakuza. We shall see in a couple days but Goro Majima is this complex traumatic character that hides away his pain through his goofy insane mask. He isn't really crazy, and he isn't stupid. In fact, a lot of the bigger plot points in the original run from 0-6 had him being involved in a lot of the deeper things that happen. He's the Tojo's top hitman, and he has a reputation to uphold, but he's also fully aware of everything going on and he is a lot more knowledgable on stuff than people give him credit for. He goes through a lot of crap to keep people he cares about safe, and suffers for it. But ultimately he doesn't care because that's what he's meant to do in his mind I feel. I'm trying to not spoil anything, Yakuza is one of my favorites right now. But he's so much more than the crazy dude who crossdresses and hides under oversized traffic cones. Majima, Saejima, and Kiryu are my favorite characters from those games and with the direction the series is headed I just hope they remember why people got into it in the first place.

Sheldon Cooper.

Since the first season he had a robot like personality, kinda Asperger. He was a cool character because of this and other traits, and then around season 7 or 8 he started to change becoming more human, smiling, having real friends, a girlfriend and even having sex.

As good as BBT was, it probably ran for too long and the writers had no idea what they were doing after a while.

Nightwing
Poor Dick dude, he doesn't deserve the nonsense that's gone on with him. It's frankly bizarre how many weird sexual assaults have occured towards him that are played off for laughs (like when he was randomly a secret agent) or just entirely ignored afterwards (like the Tarantula one you already mentioned. He's just a good guy, it's really off-putting.
Flash (Wally West)
Oh yeah, nothing like a good random massacre. It was pretty much right after he was reinstated as the current Flash too if I remember, and people were excited to get someone new after Barry. Didn't Impulse also go on a completely out of left field killing spree around the same time?

(hot take here: I don't mind this change because I feel the original reason is stupid and logically inconsistent)
Its definitely more edgy but like you said it makes more sense; I like it too, but I do miss the days when Batman wasn't so edgy at the same time.

YES. Samus in Other M is (to me) the absolute worst example of this ever!
Or is it the best example? Worst case? You know what i mean! F that game!! :ROFLMAO:

Story and characters were bad but the game itself was fine.

Female fanfiction writers.

Yes, I'm serious, and no, I'm not implying that women can't write a decent story. Unfortunately, my experience with fanfiction addicts who are women has done nothing to convince me that they aren't largely immature, petty, morally reprehensible, and overall trash writers. Devin Grayson is one herself; she liked hinting at her favorite ship in her work, Dick/Slade.

Also, this was her original quote when questioned about Nightwing's assault:
“For the record, I’ve never used the word ‘rape,’ I just said it was nonconsensual (I know, aren’t writers frustrating? *smiles*).”
Yes, she did apologize for saying that...10 years later.

I hate that solid snake points a gun at a civilian in this scene from the twin snakes.

I understand the cutscenes don't take themselves seriously and that Kojima wanted them this way due to the game being a remake, but it still unnerves me.

"Jerkass" Homer is so infamous even the show has referenced it.

Kratos from the original GOW games to 2018/Ragnarok.
Luka in Bayonetta 3.
X in Mega Man X7.

Every character in Dragon Ball in the public discussion sphere because normies think Team Fourstar is canon for some reason, and apply the parody personalities as their real personalities.

Spider-Man in Marvel comics. I swear the execs working there hate that character for some reason.

Luka was my favorite part of bayonetta, now I'm not so sad about not having played the sequels...

Yeah I was just about to say this. It’s annoyingly common.

this isn't funny because of the situation in the writing. This is funny because that is the most absurd reprehensible quote I've seen, what the hell is she smokin?

Writers like Grayson are the reason why I don't want fanfic folks anywhere near official media.

Team Fourstar and it's consequences on the western Dragon Ball fanbase has been a disaster for humanity.

Is it just a coincidence that after the release of 'Abridged', Goku actually became a retard even in an official product like 'Super'?

In that regard, I read in a recent interview published by Capsule Corporation Tokyo, in which it was stated that 'Daima' was designed to appeal to both adults and children, however, they also specifically mentioned that this time they didn’t distort the characters just to cater to the younger audience, because they realized it would make the story lose its original charm.
