In the past we issued bans after 3 strikes. This system upset the users to a point we received all sorts of treats, legal, personal or straight up vowing to destroy the site. Seeing that this can no longer continue for the wellbeing of the site, the team and myself I've decided not to issue bans any more. Except in cases of automated spambots or accounts with less than 5 posts.

These are the changes:
  • No mod can ban you (they literally lack that ability to do so).
  • Mods can issue warnings.
  • Each warning is worth "1 point" (never more) but some warnings can be 0 points.
  • Warning points expire in 15 days instead of 30.
  • A user with 3 or more non expired points will automatically be in "Reader Mode".
  • In Reader Mode you can access all of the forum and repo normally but you can't post or react to others.
  • When enough warnings expire for you to have less than 3 active ones, reader mode gets lifted and you can post again.
  • You can see your warnings and when they expire in your profile.
  • Only you can see your own warnings.
  • If for some reason you have less than 3 active warnings and are still in Reader Mode, try to relog. If that doesn't fix it contact a mod by DM or use the contact us form at the bottom of the page.

I can understand the decision behind the removal of bans.

I think the best hope now is for the userbase to make it really uncomfortable around here for anyone acting like a total prick.

Why do I have a feeling that this will get abused by Shit posters as they now just can sit it out before continuing their deeds, anyway I don't really understand how they can threaten you with anything as it is your Site and your rules, and normally you decide the people you want on your Site and wich you don't want, but I am not an lawyer after all so I don't know the legal burdens concerning this Issue.

The best you can do is not engage and just report them.

What wouldn't be bad is if you could block users yourself because this ignoring I don't know exactly what that means. There are simply many users here who cannot control themselves. I also always experience in my threads that some people just write senseless comments without even thinking about what they are writing. Would be a good idea to block, think about it .

The Xenforo software doesn't have a blocking feature, nor they are interested in making one despite numerous requests by their customer base.

There's only one add-on that does it but has major bugs and was never updated since release.

Banning system maybe changed but the rules remains the same. Which means no lewd stuff, no religion, no politics, and the important of all don’t be an asshole.
You had me by the first three once but the fourth one is just asking the Impossible now ;) just kidding.Ah you know I am just messing with ya.

Everything is possible but you also have to want it. This community site is still very young here and is running quite well as I see and I am sure that Retro Game Talk has a great future ahead of it but yes do what you think is right!

Spike is hindered by some systems limitations and there’s not so much he can do but that doesn’t mean he’s not doing the best he can.

Ignoring just makes it so you can't see their posts and reacts. It doesn't stop them from seeing you. It works just fine. Occasionally I'll see 'this post is content from a user you have ignored'. It works well enough.

I am unsure if it stops them from DMing you, but if you have an issue with someone harassing you in DMs, you can just screenshot and report it to the mods.

Its still so wild to me that people have threatened you etc. for banning them from YOUR site. Like this shit is yours, wtf makes them think they have a right to be here if you don't want them here?

Anyway, thanks again for putting up with it all Spike
