Chainsmoker Cat

Its bold, its new and kind of refreshing compared to everything I've seen so far in the anime industry. I like it, and the outrage is largely artificial or larping.

Well, as someone who literally JUST saw EP 2 and has been reading the manga, I can say without much hesitation that it's THE weirdest anime / manga I've ever consumed. But at the same time... that's precisely why I'm loving it. It's really unique and unlike anything I've seen before. That, and it's probably the most accurate portrayal of living in a constant state of depression that isn't romamticized.

I recommend reading the manga as well in case you end up liking it.
Even better... read a bit, watch an episode, keep reading, watch another episode...

I've never tried reading/watching at the same time. By the time I get to the end of the manga, I'll be on the last episode too.

Like you said, it is weird and a bit gross, but man do I wish more anime/manga were this daring in a wholesome way and not just trying to IP farm and make waifus 24/7

Haven't watched/read it personally, though I do have to admit the "controversy" surrounding it does have me a little interested lol.

It is a shame it feels like every single anime/manga now can't be discussed in good faith anymore online, just seems like all discussions end up devolving into some insane back and forth driven by mass psychosis.

I particularly found it hilarious that some anime news accounts over on Twitter were saying that a lot of Japanese viewers were "dropping" this show because of how gross it is. But in reality, the reception over in Japan ranges from mixed to positive. Heck, if you were to go on the official Yani Neko YT channel, a handful of their videos have decently sized view counts.

I also wouldn't be surprised if some people are just now getting into this series because of how "controversial" it is. Good ol' Streisand effect.

I've already done this with several different series lol.

• Alma-chan wa Kazoku ni Naritai
• Dungeon no Naka no Hito
• Medalist
• Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan
• Hime Kishi wa Barbaroi no Yome
• Kaya-chan wa Kowakunai
And of course...
• Ruri no Houseki

I Just saw it randomly and thought it was so Insane yet Interesting and basically it's plot is pretty Wack you know and I thought it was funny but then again I have others to WATCH like Tokyo mew mew and Alenine nine

unfortunately for me i think the "controversy" might be more interesting than the show will end up being. i'm not really into stuff that elicits a "wow that's so me" constantly. the clips i've gotten on my feeds do paint a picture of someone barely keeping it together which is a fresh angle but that's kind of it yknow?

What's this controversy everybody's talking about?
I enjoy watching anime, but I avoid anime communities.

I stayed up late to watch the premier and the second episode dropped about 7 hours ago. So far I'm loving it. This one pull their punches so to speak which is great because mostly all we those bland unfunny safe edginess.

It's not so much a "controversy" as it is just people dropping the show because of its gross-out humor and its surprisingly accurate depiction of coping with depression.
