Castlevania Megathread

I never understood if LoD is basically an expanded version of Castlevania 64 or not.
Kinda. Like, it has it's own main story (Cornell, the Werewolf guy), and then by playing the secondary story (Henry's one) and unlocking stuff in that one, you can play Reinhart's and Carrie's stories (the protagonists of the original C64).
It's like a Director's Cut of Castlevania 64 so to speak.
Sadly, it doesn't have the violin Divine Bloodlines intro, so it's worse(?

And talking about games everyone hates except for me, I love both Castlevania 64 and Legacy of Darkness.
Legacy of Darkness is the shit, right there with you. Recently found my old cart actually - now I only need a functional N64 controller without a completely loose control stick and I'm back in the game!

1. Castlevania I/Akumajou Dracula (I always try to speedrun this one.)
2. Castlevania IV/Akumajou Dracula (However only the Japanese SFC version.)
3. Castlevania 3/Akumajou Densetsu (Only the version with improved audio.)
Also Vampire Killer for the MSX2

I've only played the original trilogy and then whichever one Dracula X Chronicles was a remake for. I loved em! Definitely wanna go through and play IV and Bloodlines someday.

OG is the one I return to most frequently since its the shortest and most accessible one. Its the perfect level of difficulty overall so if I just wanna kill a half hour to an hour I can plow through it while talking with friends on discord or something. 3 is probably my favorite overall though!

I love Castlevania 1-3 dearly, but I gotta give it to Rondo on this one. I think it's so polished and fun, and the vibe is immaculate.

Castlevania SOTN (the "secret" PSP version).
Castlevania 4
Rondo of Blood

Honorable mention: X68000's Castlevania/Akumaju.

castlevania adventure rebirth. sadly not available for purchase anymore because it was wii eshop only.

I mean it's close enough right?

  1. Super Castlevania IV (one of the best SNES games of all times)
  2. Castlevania 1 on NES (a replayable classic I loved a lot)
  3. Castlevania Adventure Rebirth (no idea why Konami hasn't republished this yet)
  4. Kid Dracula (it counts, right? ...no pun intended)
  5. Adventure 2: Belmont's Revenge
  6. Rondo of Blood (...with Maria unlocked, at least)
  7. Bloodlines/New Generation (very cool Genesis game)
  8. Castlevania X: Vampire Kiss (not that bad)
  9. Chronicles (leaving aside the graphics, it's fine)
  10. Legends (it's decent, but that's about it)
  11. og Adventure (the ultimate slogfest of a game)
  12. Vampire Hunter arcade (...just no, especially for Simon's walking)

Maybe bloodlines and rondo of blood

Hello guys, how is the PC port of Symphony of the Night going? i was hoping there was one in this site to download already.

Castlevania Lords of Shadow 1 and 2 for the PS2 are my favorites.
It's for PS3, Xbox360 and PC actually.

im a castlevania normie so the ones i generally come back to/have interest in are Bloodlines and Chi no Rondo, everything else in the classic era is kinda whatever to me, i guess theres Super Castlevania IV but i dont really care about that one either

Satisfying, but kinda painful, especially the backtracking. Game made me definitely felt dumb in some parts and definitely overplayed where I could just say "nah, no need to stress over". But instead I even fought the Forgotten One (almost for nothing tbh. It was definitely much harder than Death that I've beat it first try). Ugh.

I played Castlevania Legends and I think it was fine for a Castlevania game. I think that I find odd about it was the fact that due to the implications of the ending and story, this game is considered not canon towards the original timeline. I get the decision but I feel like it and the Julius games was missed opportunities for more expansion.

I'm looking forward to completing lament of innocence. Although I wasn't the biggest fan of the numerous repetitive rooms/corridors that featured in the PS2 castlevania games.

You could tell their budget was limited for those 2 games, but they turned out fine. And Curse of Darkness seems even way more promising (especially since FINALLY THE LEVEL UP SYSTEM IS BACK).
