Castlevania Megathread

I'm one of those freaks who prefers the SNES Dracula X OST over the PC-Engine version lol.

As for remixes, Shimoine has done so many insanely good renditions of not just Castlevania games, but lots of other Konami games too. Yasui Yosuke's Divine Bloodlines and Dracula Battle 1&2 are amazing as well.

Game: Vampire Killer (Castlevania: Bloodlines)

Entire SC4 ost. Love that game to bits.

Only one man ever trapped Dracula inside a Solar Eclipse, and this is his theme.

Definitely this one:

and for something more unusual:
my favorite password menu theme in videogame history

Lots of great Castlevania games for sure. ::alucard Did anyone enjoy the animated shows on Netflix?

Yes and no. Animation was good, story was okay-ish, but I felt that they turned Alucard into a joke.
They broke his character a bit too much in my opinion, with the worst of it being the threesome scene. It's like the creators intentionally went out of their way to traumatise those of us who grew up loving this game (and it's inspiration Vampire Hunter D). One of the coolest / stoic characters ever - doesn't end up in a perverted hentai scene. iirc the other two were siblings. The emotional impact that their treachery was supposed to have, and how it affected Alucard, just didnt really work. It was a bit pathetic. Give me either of the Vampire Hunter D movies over this crap any day.
That's just my take.

In general.
git gud fake. It's not much harder than mega man games!

I've been playing ever since SotN on the PS1 so this series is near and dear to em. Pretty sure I've played every mainline CV game there is as well as some spin-offs. I never get tired of romping through Dracula's castle and combating the nightmarish hordes that dwell within. Heck, SotN is my favorite video game of all time and playing it is one of my favorite PS1 based childhood memories.

So with all do respect towards Konami I issue unto them this one humble request.

GIVE JULIUS HIS OWN GODDAMN GAME ALREADY!!!!
I mean there's Seal of the Eclipse, but GOD only knows if that is still alive...
Waiting for The Transylvania Adventure of Simon Quest, it comes out this year or maybe early 2026, but the devs were saying that maybe october 2025.

Man, Rondo of Blood is really kicking my ass.
If it's the bridge ok, but if it's the clock tower, i mean...IGA basically made us practice those at least three times before.

it is odd how low the difficulty of symphony of the night is compared to titles like castlevania 3
i wonder if that was the intentzors

Probably first game syndrome, remember SOTN was the first game in the series to take the metroidvania approach, to be fair to SOTN though, that easy difficulty also probably helped it immensely to become as popular as it is.

I just modded my DSi, I need to go through the GBA and DS rpg's. Never actually got through them. I had Aria of Sorrow as a kid but never beat it.

My homie recently bought me Vampire Survivors because I was talking about how I was curious about the Castlevania DLC for it. They got everybody in that hoe. I'm working towards getting Soma Cruz and Maria. Crazy that they got that many characters in it. Really cool little game.

My favorite CV game though is probably Lament of Innocence. I like Leon a lot. Still not as cold as Trevor though.

I also liked the Anime. I don't have a problem with the changes the same way I did with say, Devil May Cry. Castlevania is at least fun to watch, and the characters are decently written. I like what they did with Alucard in that. Still haven't gotten to Nocturne yet though.

Vampire survivors is great, tons of content for the price of 1 indie game even when not on sale, the music is amazing too.

I really like lament of innocence, too bad it's no longer canon.

The anime i 100% disagree on though, i find it disturbingly insulting to the series but hey to each his own.

I marathoned GBA+DS castlevania games 3-4 years ago and I had a great time

Order of Ecclesia tho... soured my experience at the end! Enjoyed the story and the characters but not the gameplay!
Not a fan of it's Rock-Papper-Scissor constant combat balance and obnoxious difficulty design choises
Why am I fighting a boss inside such a small room! Why every pixel of a giant boss has hitbox detection?

I get it 100%

I mean, some of the changes are a bit much, but I feel like the story is good enough to where it doesn't really bug me all too much. It's a weird one for sure, because they changed so much about the characters, and some are just terrible. But at least it actually tried being entertaining, Most adaptations like that end up so much worse.

My first Castlevania was Dawn of Sorrow. I bought it used for $20 and I couldn't put it down. I finished it in a weekend, but next week I bought the sequel Portrait of Ruin which I also enjoyed. I would then try out the other Castlevania games available on the eShop like Castlevania IV. I think I got into the series at a good time as it was having a resurgence and later got the PS4 port of Symphony of the Night which came bundled with Rondo of Blood. I think these games are awesome and I also enjoyed Bloodstained Ritual of the Night.

Order of ecclesia had a issue that most people don't know about, the game incentivises grinding specific glyphs for ability, this means like you said, it led to a rock-paper-scissors case, of the ds games i think order of ecclesia is my favorite, but not because of that, because it's a unique take on the series and most of the game takes place outside of dracula's castle.

my first castlevania was the original game on nintendo, and it is still my favourite game in the series
so pure, so tightly design, so lacking in filler, every moment being special, every sub weapon masterfully designed for every situation the player could find themselves in, such a genius game to come out in the 80s, so early in the life of the industry, yet the developers already knew exactly what to do to make a perfect action game

but not because of that, because it's a unique take on the series and most of the game takes place outside of dracula's castle.
I did enjoy this aspect, along with Portrait of Ruin, the and Quest system that makes you return to locations of more story!
But I wish the final Castle was bigger
