So after checking, the new hack has indeed the most vivid/vibrant colors. However I am not sure yet if I prefer that to the previous recolor as there is more contrast between the background and the character and enemies. With the new coloring all seems to blend more with the background making it - perhaps - a bit harder to play. As I said I am not sure yet.

it looks more atmospheric and closer to the PS1 for its visual aesthetics and as a bonus the blue border of the protagonist's sprite was removed and this is fine.

I remember playing this on original hardware for the first time and couldn't put it down. I really appreciate the recent hacks for this game and excited about trying this one.

Not familiar with the GBA and DS games. I've only played Castlevania 1 on NES, Super Castlevania 4 on SNES and (the superior) Bloodlines on Genesis.
Give them a try, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I also think Bloodlines is better than SCV4, especially with the retranslation and color hack.

How does this compare to the other 'Recolor' and 'Definitive Version'?
This one use the same colors but darker and Definitive (that use Recolor hack) changes the area colors to be more gothic (green caves are brown, some white interiors are brown or dark blue).
