I am not a huge fan of comics and Captain in general, just watched them movies and followed some other stuff invidentally. And this is also a more serious reply in a joke thread.
I think the point of Cap'n was to have shield as his "weapon", to make him stand out as "protector" type of deal. It is also very much more kid friendly when he has no guns nor swords or knives. And also likely can add to "not killing a villain that can then come back repeatedly" shtick. One can at least appreciate there being a bit of creative thought in the whole thing.

But really, his copy of P3rd is just bugged out someone should sort out his PSP asap.

his shield doubles as a weapon because he can fling it like a frisbee or use it to smash enemies.

Yes, I was not saying, to me, the obvious.
He uses a shield as a weapon for a different type of "pen is mightier than sword" type of thing. Weaponized shield is a simple yet satisfying difference from conventional types of design, as also stands as symbolism. Of course he uses it as a weapon too, and his lore is that his physical capability is plenty enough without raiding He-Man's locker or picking up Thor's junk.

But really someone should tell Cap'n already his copy of Freedom Unite is borked and should get it swapped already.

All Cap really needs is his fists. The shield is more or less a back up weapon and has much more range than a punch would. While I understand why he'd be having guns in WWII (probably because he was unsure of the Super Soldier Serum?), they don't make sense for a character who would never intentionally take a life

Also HUGE Captain America fan here btw

I mean, you take one look at the shield's design and it's pretty obvious why they wouldn't want you focusing on anything else. Unless you guys can think of a sword design that is equally patriotic
