Inoue:
AI is developing rapidly and possessing increasingly advanced intelligence. At times, it surpasses most humans, and I feel that it has even surpassed the best humans.
Abe:
As for AI models, we have many based on our own proprietary mathematical models. At the same time, we also need AI with the characteristics of what are commonly called frontier models, such as Gemini. So we combine those with our proprietary components.

Another approach is to train Capcom's own specialized AI models from scratch - including something like an 'Art Director Model' - and have those and Gemini reason together to improve accuracy.

While I know the AI talk can be tiresome, I think it's important to let people know which developers are using it if they want to avoid AI-assisted games.

AI CANNOT MAKE ART!!!! and therefore is not art. I said it. I make this distinction. Art is an expression of the human experience. Simple as that.

Using AI to generate thrash forms of visual media is another thing entirely though and I think it needs to be stated that there's a distinction to be made here, many models exist and have different functions. As someone that loves to read books and I simple adore animation as a medium, and I, in general, greatly respect many artists across many art forms. AI being used for ART is a massively no-no from me, it's thrash, end of.

With that all said:

ALL programming related jobs will be using AI tools of some kind, even just for basic syntax, I'm a computer scientist with experience on how this stuff is being handled within companies more recently, Basic coding will be handled by AI for the most part over the next few years in almost all companies, this is basic stuff and frees up time for the actual system/developing side of things. All video games use scripting of some kind. Scripting will be fully automated, hell we actually write scripts to automate functions at a systems level ourselves the whole time. Dev Ops we call it.

In this case, Capcom openly stated "Art director model", big, big mistake. The uniqueness of the designs in all their games came from human creativity, not any algorithm. As if AI can do the designs for the monster hunter armors from scratch, it's not possible, it needs a reference point.

There's a pressure toward automation in tech, and this is completely unrelated to the media and art side of things within any business. So yes, not all AI is bad. In this case though, the plan on using visual models ::sadkirby

I agree.

For decades now, you can be shown footage from any random game and immediately know it's a Capcom game because of their unique style and presentation.

But let them crash and enjoy the fireworks, man.

hmmm eh its ai is a tool, it may not be able to do art but it might be able to other things, making games is not just gameplay idea and graphics.

this feels like nothing to me cause when they say it may be doing things better than a person, its not saying which things, it may as well also just be PR talk to look fancy for investors.

whatever, when they actually do something with it, then ill see and make my opinion of it.

edit: nvm i didnt read the "art director" part, yikes... ah well

It really depends on how they use it. I'll look more into it, but my general opinion is I am fine with "AI refinement", as in the concept of an artist already creating art but then using AI to change up a style or do some touching up. A user on this forum who is my friend, Sonic Boomer does this. He is a professional illustrator too and some examples look really nice.

However, when it comes to getting less than what we got before, such as generating whole assets with AI that are important for world-building or anything beyond that, which does NOT start from an actual artist creating something, I am against. I do accept refinement however and in specific cases at that.

And I thought Capcom didn't have much to do with that sort of thing. Well, anyway, whatever. This whole AI thing is like scorched earth. No idea, sometimes I think about things like that, but then I quickly realize that there's no point in thinking about it.

I swear to god, the way all this AI shit feels so forced.

it just feels like people are just pushing it for the sake of pushing it rather than actually thinking about the consequences
Yeah, a lot of it is, I think in large part due to huge data centers being built and they need to seem hyped about it so that investors can get satisfied. Companies like Capcom praising it also probably get some specific benefits from doing so, but I get what you mean it is forced for sure.

AI shit just preys on people who dont understand it and just see it as a money printer. its why you often have executives and non-creative types always pushing it

Worst thing is it quite literally is a money printer for some.
Here in Macedonia we have like 3 companies making personalized stories for kids. Its literally a kids book they AI generate for the kid, which the parents send the name of and pictures of them. And the "art" is the most basic ass AI generated images you can imagine.

Older women especially go crazy for it, but I've seen an eerie amount of my younger peers also fall into this.

it pisses me off how people even on this very site defend this garbage

It depends on use. Honestly I can't really give a rat's ass if they save time and money by generating textures or sound effects, as well as other assets of the kind people don't pay attention to but it's absence is notable. I genuinely don't think you truly care if the coffee cup is ai generated or modeled by a human.

But the character design, the art direction, the story, the script, that better be made by humans. Level design should also be handled by humans. And don't be lazy, if the AI didn't give the results that you wanted, do not say "good enough" and use it anyway, manually modify it or even make it from scratch if necessary.

Not into this, and you really should not be doing this Capcom. You already have more than enough money and funding to not even need it. Do you really wanna see yourself start losing all that money you worked so hard to gain back, along with the decent will?

That's where the major concerns are for most people, not only here, but everywhere else who don't like this.

I'm sure max dood will be very happy to report on this and let the general public know how much Capcom loves gen AI, he's very outspoken about this sort of thing with other companies and he's such a shining beacon of unbiased, honest journalism otherwise so I see no reason he wouldn't....

I expected this to happen, in fact I fear that by 2030 most entertainment will be made almost entirely using AI.

Brilliant move, Capcom! You've won back all this good will with a string of million dollar AAA hits (created by a flesh and blood team of human individuals) so let's go ahead and toss that shit all out by getting useless AI involved that costs everyone billions of dollars and accomplishes nothing! I thought the goal of a good business was to sell products and make money, but apparently it's just to rug pull it's customers with shitty tech trends that will crash the economy!

I sure wasn't familiar with your game Capcom, colour me impressed!

I dislike genAI slop as much as the next person with a brain, but let's be honest, gamedev companies are already using it, and widespread backlash against it is only gonna make them keep using it in secret. Game development costs have skyrocketed and anything that can improve their margins will be welcome. There is no legal obligation for companies to reveal genAI use in development, and a lot of people already confuse "genAI" with "AI in general," which has been a part of video games since their inception.

Anyway, I hope Capcom's art department remains AI-free, because they have such a distinctive house style.

Some people out there are angry about AI use, because they feel AI is taking their jobs. To them I'd like to say:
If you're reading this, Capcom would never hire you, even if AI didn't exist!"

As for games made using AI, I'm not interested in them. Then again it's been years since I've last bought any video games at all, so I suppose the sentiment is mutual. ::sailor-embarrassed

Glad to see some Maxshillmilian Dewd calling out.
