Can "Genesis" be renamed to "Genesis(Mega Drive)"?

I tend to use both names depending on what regional version of a game I'm talking about. Like I would never recommend people play Streets of Rage 3 for the Genesis but would absolutely recommend Bare Knuckle III for the Mega Drive.

you know... genesis is frankly sega mastesystem 3 and megadrive is mastersystem 2.... im not sure if i got it right but segacd is genesis plus.

Genesis rolls better of the tongue, but Mega Drive is the original name.

Since I first knew it like Sega Genesis I tend to use that, but I'd prefer to call consoles with their original name.

Of course both names should be used since it seems the split is kind of even.

This you need to take up with Mega Drive Inc. which was a North American company that registered this name for a line of storage devices they were developing.
Thus, this issue.
As far as I know, they are extinct now, so it "could" be a point of action, but why? The brands already settled in.
