Can amateurs beat games?

Outside of the game genre, it really comes down to doing it for the love of the game (literally). You may not be very good at it at first but over time you get better because of how much you enjoy the game and a desire to get better at said game. By the end you pretty much have reached the point of understanding the systems and functions of that game.

Overall, the love of the game carries all!

Sure, if you'd like. Although, GTA IV and V were the last two games I actually bought. So I will probably be working on them for the foreseeable future 😅.
okay. i mostly play strategy and rpgs but i'll try to give you a variety of games to check out.
some good starting points would be kirby or mario games. kirby's pinball land is short, but has a very good difficulty level. i've only ever beaten the game once in the entire time that i've owned it. but it's fun to play without beating it as well. same for tetris attack. pretty much any mario game is a good start for platformers as is with kirby. there's no wrong one to start with.
legend of the river king [game boy] is a mix of rpg, fishing and fish raising sim. some difficulty, mainly with finding the fish that you need to progress. you fight wild animals as the enemies and they can steal your fish.
dot hack is a fantastic action rpg series. good combat, music, characters.
pikmin is a good series to get into for real time strategy games. the recommended order is 4-3-1-2. yugioh the falsebound kingdom is good as well. it mixes strategy with rpg mechanics.
advance wars and fire emblem are good starting points for turn based strategy games.
dragon ball z budokai, xenoverse and fighterz for fighting games and multiplayer ones.
mario kart 64 and double dash for racing. mario party for testing your bonds with your friends and family.
baseball for the nes and any mario sports game for the sports category.
metroid prime and darkwatch for first person shooters.
that's about all i got for right now.

There's a similitude with learning to play an instrument. When you're serious about it, you need to pick something just challenging enough to further your skills but no so much as to make you drop out. There are insanely difficult pieces which are impossible for mere mortals and those who just look impossible but they aren't. Either playing an instrument or gaming, don't be afraid to be passionate abougt it and choose your own path.

Yeah, why not?

I could even bring the argument that current gaming has devolved the games so more amateurs can beat/feel the power of beating a game.

An amateur could probably finish 90% of most games out there, as most games aren't insanely difficult affairs. Things like Ninja Gaiden might be a bit much for some, but anyone could beat something like Super Mario World or Doom with a bit of practice.

If you playing video games then yes I mean there are beginner casual games as long you love playing and enjoy.

I think also something important to be aware of is; there are sometimes games that just won't be for you.

I don't like Hollow Knight. That doesn't mean the game is bad, I just don't enjoy playing it. It frustrates me too much, but that's because the style of game it is, is just not something that clicks with me. And that's ok. It just means this style of game is not for me. It's not even because of skill specifically. I have found many games hard and have spent hours on certain bosses or levels. But the difference with Hollow Knight is no matter how much progress I made, I was never really having fun.
The thing which made the game fun for others, the struggle and backtracking, was exactly why I wasn't enjoying it. So I stopped playing it.

Then there's a game like Baldur's Gate 3. I actually upped the difficulty eventually to make it MORE challenging for myself, and happily spent 4 hours one day on a single boss I was struggling with. But the difference was despite it being a struggle, I was having FUN.

That's all it really boils down to. If a game gets hard and you hit a wall, if you're still having fun playing, even if it gets frustrating, don't lose faith in yourself. Keep trying! Eventually you will get better. As long as you find the game enjoyable then it's ok. because the reward for getting past the wall is more of the game to play.

But if you are playing a game and have just never really been able to get past "frustration" the entire time. And you just never feel you're having fun, but you keep playing because "everybody says this game is great" or "maybe it'll get fun after 20 hours", then it's ok to just consider maybe this particular game is not your style of game, and then try a new one instead.

Playing games is actually one of the easiest activities you can do. Sure, some games are hard and punishing, but even then its not even half as difficult as learning an instrument for example. Ultimately, it comes down to whether you think the frustration is worth it. When I play difficult games, it’s usually because I’ve naturally improved over time, and seeking greater challenges helps keep things fresh. But deliberately playing frustrating games feels pointless to me, I’d rather use that energy on something more worthwhile.

I don't finish most games I play. I usually hit a wall of "nah I don't wanna do that", and then I never come back to them.

Interesting that you say that because I play multiple instruments but dont think ive beaten a game before. With music, many things come easy and naturally to me personally. Maybe it will work in my favor putting that effort into a game lol
