Tente primeiro Dragon Quest 6 e Sands of Destruction.

The Nintendo DS is one of the greatest portable gaming devices ever made. I still have my DS lite that I bought in 2007 and it works perfectly. The battery life is much better than the Switch and the catalog of games is quite good, especially if you enjoy strategy games. You could emulate, but its worth having a DS to play while on the bus or at doctor appointments.

Mega Man Zero Collection (Mega Man Zero 1-4) (hard as hell but so much fun! Story is damn good too!)
Mega Man ZX
Mega Man ZX Advent
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow (direct sequel to Aria of Sorrow for the GBA)
Castlevania Portrait of Ruin
Castlevania Order of Ecclesia
Sonic Classic Collection (Sonic 1,2,3 and Knuckles)
Zelda Phantom Hourglass
Zelda Spirit Tracks
Golden Sun Dark Dawn (Golden Sun Book 3)
Kingdom Hearts 358 Days/2 (the original full game, not just a movie like in the collection. you can build your own Keyblade with stuff you equip to it.)
Kingdom Hearts RE Coded (remake of a cell phone game that only released in Japan)
Nostalgia (a more realistic setting for a JRPG but still has that anime look)
Wizard of Oz Beyond The Yellow Brick Road (a super linear JRPG made by the devs of Wild ARMS)
Chrono Trigger (it's the same as the SNES and PS-One versions but with even more content!)
Final Fantasy 3, 4 (both are 3D remakes of the original games, features full voice acting)
Dragon Quest 4, 5, 6 (3D remakes of the second trilogy)
Super Mario 64 DS (It's like Super Mario 64 but with PS-One graphics. The caps were replaced with abilities with different characters you unlock. Some stars are only reachable by Yoshi, Wario, or Luigi)
Mario Kart DS (solid kart racer.)
Ermii Kart (Mario Kart DS rom hack but with memes. IT HAS SHREK. put it on a repro and try it for yourself!)
Mario and Luigi Partners in Time (uses all 4 face buttons to control Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi in battle. Evil shrooms from another world take over the Mushroom Kingdom and you have to stop the queen.)
Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story (No babies this time, but still a solid RPG. Has the best final boss theme ever composed by Yoko Shimomura other than 358 Days.)
Metroid Prime Hunters (you get to pick different planets to jump to and your targets are other alien bounty hunters. This is one of my favorites!)
Pokemon games are also a safe bet but expensive as all hell now. Repro em.

Mega Man Zero Collection (Mega Man Zero 1-4) (difícil pra caramba, mas muito divertido! A história também é muito boa!)
Mega Man ZX
Mega Man ZX Advent
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow (sequência direta de Aria of Sorrow para GBA)
Retrato da Ruína de Castlevania
Ordem de Ecclesia de Castlevania
Coleção Sonic Classic (Sonic 1, 2, 3 e Knuckles)
Zelda Phantom Hourglass
Trilhas Espirituais de Zelda
Sol Dourado, Amanhecer Sombrio (Livro 3 do Sol Dourado)

The DS has a really great library of games, so yes. But I'd recommend buying a Nintendo 2DS/3DS, or at least a Nintendo DSi or DSi XL.
These consoles have a bigger screen ( though with the same resolution for both DSi's), more memory, a faster processor and in the case of both DSi's a better battery. And they can use SDHC cards (and microSD in case on New 2DS/3DS)

The console? yes
The original model? Eh... no

I'd reccomend getting a SD card compatible with TWL menu, the OG DS only give you as option R4 cards, that as a veteran can tell, they suck, they start good, but after a year or so they start to break (Errors, games suddenly breaking, the MicroSD commiting die) and some of the more demanding games (Like Solatorobo or Okamiden) flatout doesn't work, worse is that nowadays you are looking for a scam if you buy a r4 card, by contrast TLW menucan only be done in DSi onwards AFAIK, but isin constant updating and as long as you format properly the MicroSD, any of them will do, help that TWL has preinstalled emulators (Nothing too great obviously, the SNES one is a chore to get going and Genesis is a no-no) that will do the trick

(Errors, games suddenly breaking, the MicroSD commiting die)
Often the cause in these cases is poor microSD quality on the R4 card. It's the same with retro consoles from Ali Express sent with cards stuffed with games.
In both cases, replacing the microSD card with a better quality card (Sandisk, Samsung, Kingston, PNY.... just anything that is not some no name) and copying the files from one card to the other without forgetting to format the card properly helps.

here is the online patcher for Ermii Kart: Legacy Edition (1.0)
You need to provide your own rom of Mario Kart DS to patch it.

Ermii Kart gameplay (it aims to be the successor to Mario Kart 0)

here's all the characters (INCLUDING SHREK)

I have to personally agree with most of the answers other folks have given in that if you don't mind having the "authentic" DS experience, then yes especially since some games like Guitar Hero and Pokemon use the second GBA slot found on the DS and DS Lite. There could be other games that do but those two are the ones that come to mind right now. As a secondhand owner of one, its nice to have so I can have the capacity to play either GBA or DS games on the go, but as I would explain later - its in my possession only for the sake of transferring mons from Gen3 to Gen4.

If you don't care much for a smaller screen like myself and wouldn't mind sacrificing the GBA slot in some form for better hardware and cameras, then you would be better off with a DSi or any member of the 3DS family. I have had my original secondhand 3DS and used that for a while as my DS console before I got my first 3DS game and honestly, I loved it. The odd screen resolution didn't bothered me and when trying out the games in the original DS screen size I couldn't personally enjoy the games as much - but it's because I have bad eyes and was so used to default resolution of the backwards compatibility.
Both the DSi and 3DS families also have access to CFWs that allow you to play GBA and below games as well as DS games from the SD Card.

Of course, I think all of it is up to personal preference. I had thought about getting a DSi for some odd reason - maybe to try it out myself. But it felt pointless and I just need to fix my 2DS' D-Pad issue...

think it's worth it. sure you can emulate and play it on your pc or phone but it doesn't feel as comfortable.

i bought one for $40 and decided to mod it with gamextreme shell and replace some parts. crazy good battery compared to PSP, and huge library of games. jsut buy an r4 card

That depends on the Model. The OG DS is a bit cumbersome to use. Its hinges are known to easily break over time, and the screen doesn't get bright enough, The DS Lite on the other hand improves on all those things. If you're cursed with man-hands, (like me) the DSi xl is usually the way to go.

Yes, I recommend buying a DS lite because:
● The DS lite could play both Nintendo DS games and Game Boy Advanced games.
● Compared to the original DS, the Lite has brighter, sharper dual screens.
● The DS lite is cheaper than a 3DS or Switch, especially second-hand.
● Compared to the original DS, the Lite has brighter, sharper screens.

And that's why I think it's worth it in 2025.

revisiting this thread to recommend the game Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective

very very fun and funny and felt like a complete adventure. great puzzles, great story. spare yourself around 20 hrs or so to play the game, can't recommend it enough, really

I'd recommend getting it, especially if you want to play games that are infamous for not working well on emulators. (Mostly looking at The World Ends With You here, I tried using my drawing tablet to make the touch screen work, but it didn't work that well...)

(Estou falando principalmente de The World Ends With You aqui.
Thanks for the tip, I'm going to use the emulator to create my own gaming system. I want to play casual adventure games, but I'm not a fan of anything else.
