Using your preferred controller, map one action to each button.

Circle = Guard
Cross = Jump
Square = Attack
Triangle = Menu
R1 = Lock On
L1 = Special
L2 = Held for second moveset
R2 = Slide

Map all to X cuz I like to multitask.

Y (Nintendo)
Square ( playstation)
X( Xbox)
All of that
run and b, circle, a to jump
This is the only way of doing things

I don't really change console games much, aside from specific instances.
But on PC:
CTRL- Crouch (toggle)
E - Use
Space - Jump
R - Reload
WASD - Move
Q - Special
V - Flashlight
F - Melee
Side mouse 1 - Grenades
Side Mouse 2 - alt attack/fire
Shift - Spring (toggle)

I also always set my FOV to 110, turn off motion blur, turn off chromatic aberration, turn off depth of field, and set mouse sensitivity to extremely low. I like 180 degree turns to equal the length of my arm moving from one end of my mouse mat to the other.

I also always set my FOV to 110
I'm still trying to get my head around my preferred FOV settings. I've been playing The Talos Principle 2 on and off for about a year or so, and I'm always messing with the FOV setting and nothing's clicked yet that's made me say "Ah! This is the perfect setting!". I'll try 110 next

Green = Jump
Blue = Attack / SMB run
Red or Yellow = Alt attack / Special attack
Space bar = Dodge / Spelunky rope / Blip Blop's cow bomb
Shift = duck
White buttons = misc stuff

Something like that

Yea 110 is my sweet spot.
Here is a helpful FOV calculator if you want to mess around. Accounts for both horizontal and vertical FOV computation

With the exception of the Switch and other Nintendo titles on GBA/DS I will always switch the O/X to reflect western conventional mapping I grew up with.
X - Action/Attack
O - Cancel/Run
Square - Dodge/Block/Jump/Action (if action and attack are separate)
Triangle - Menu/Map
For Keyboard I will usually look for a controller option. If not my Deck might pick up the slack like the time I spent 1 hour remapping the controls until I got internet and found a map on steam.

Sony confused us...

I like having critical actions clustered close so in my case, using the Dual Shock 4 (my preferred controller):

Circle = Slide
Cross = Jump
Square = Attack
Triangle = Special

R1 = Guard
L1 = Held for second moveset
L2 = Menu
R2 = Lock On

Is there any particular reason why the menu can't be mapped to a less used button like L3, R3, start or select (or option and share, whatever)?

Circle = Flashlight
Cross = Attack/Search
Square = Hold to Run
Triangle = Map
R1 = Strafe right
L1 = Strafe left
L2 = First person POV/Look forward
R2 = Ready Weapon

Press the "Do" button.
Though seriously Sony/Kutaragi or whoever should have decided on a single button for Playstation worldwide.

It doesn't help that the MH games I played the most were fan translated from Japanese (Portable 3rd and the 3DS version of GU), and they use circle to confirm, so I got used to it. When playing a modern MH game I always swap now so that circle will confirm.

I’m gonna really annoy someone here by mapping jump to circle.

Trying to figure out button-mapping for retroarch for the pc88 emulation which I believe is controlled via keyboard. Trying to sync it up with my ps5 controller is not working. I JUST WANT TO PLAY 46 Okunen Monogatari: The Shinka Ron. Let me play this damn game already lol
