This is only possible on the Famicom/NES version, not in any of the remakes/remasters, in traditional Capcom fashion they re-released the game many times, on Mega Drive/Genesis, on Playstation, on Playstation 2 and Gamecube, on PSP, and on Android, there are also unofficial ports to the PC Engine and Super Nintendo, none of these versions support this glitch.
