Hello everyone,
I’m looking to emulate SNES on PC and would like your advice on the best choice nowadays. Which emulator would you recommend—BSNES or SNES9x , in terms of compatibility, graphics, and performance ?
My goal is to play in the best possible conditions while keeping the original 4:3 aspect ratio. Thanks in advance for your advice.

I'll admit that I don't have nearly enough experience as others, but I'll come to bat for SNES9X. It has never let me down and emulation was always crisp, fun and reliable.

I don’t have much experience either , I mainly used ZSNES emulator about 20 years ago, which is so outdated now. Even though SNES9x seems to have been receiving updates, I’m asking about BSNES vs SNES9x ,because I’m just discovering this new emulator called BSNES.

I’ll see if there are other user experiences, but it will probably end up being SNES9x.

I have both modern and old PCs:
a Ryzen5 4500 with RTX 3050 running Windows 11
And an older:
Pentium 4 running Windows XP. Hardware is not an issue for me
Maybe I remembered wrong... Accurate emulators had a "fame" of being rather "intensive"( info gotten by lurking in some romhacking forums back some years ago ), although I never tried Bsnes myself except for the earlier versions of the emulator.

Snes9X is more focused on Low-End PCs in terms of Performance and High Process Priority & Compatibility but bsnes is focused on Medium-Low Range PCs, in Normal Games but in games with chips that improve in Mid-Range in terms of Precision, Fidelity and even Quality and has a fork (bsnes-hd) that supports Widescreen format in Mode 7 and 2D Games (But you may experience pop-in and visual glitches on the sides) and HD Support but at the cost that increases a little the requirements for SFC/SNES emulation on your PC but well.

Ok, so if I understand correctly, the other one requires a crazy amount of power, and on a high-end PC you wouldn’t really notice the difference between the two. SNES9x is more optimized and runs better on older PCs, if I got that right. My PC can run emulators like Xbox 360 at 1080p and 60fps, so I don’t think power is really an issue for me with these two SNES emulators. But it’s still hard to tell which one is absolutely better. That said, since the majority of people here seem to recommend SNES9x, I guess that’s already a good sign

I’ve never heard of that emulator before, I only know the more well-known ones.
Mesen is well known and is the most accurate snes emulator along with Bsnes now known as Ares. It also emulates NES, GBA, GBC, MAster System, Game GEar and PC ENgine. Download Mesen and Ares.

Very interesting, I didn’t know that, I actually learned something new, thanks! But when it comes to Sega, I prefer to stick with Kega Fusion, even if it’s inferior, because I’m already used to it and I’ve got my graphics plugin and other stuff set up on it.
