Bombs have been a part of gaming for nearly as long as we have had joysticks — many, many games have had a flavor of them (mostly as an exciting, easy screen-clearing devise).

But... which are your favorites? What game has implemented them in a particularly satisfying way for you?

I personally love the ones in Stardew Valley because there's no "Professor Oak" bullshit when it comes to them — there's no-one telling you that you shouldn't be blowing up trees or random patches of land with them like a junior eco-terrorist. I love them!

I'm also loving the fact that many Doom mods have added them to the game, because they were sorely missed on that gameplay formula... but I'm not counting them because they weren't originally there.

BOMBS????

If it counts, I'd say the call-cop-car-to-launch-missiles-at-your-area function in the first Streets of Rage.

The full-screen bombs in Super Probotector (Super Contra III) were pretty nice too.

Flying Red Barrel: Diary of a Little Aviator has my favourite kind of bombs in a schmup.

It's damage and explosion radius increases depending on your score multiplier, so you carefully pioneer your course on the groups of enemies that would not only deal insane score to replenish your stock, but to make the bomb do MORE damage!

It's genuinely so cathartic, the way this game retooled the idea of 'bombs' being your screen clearers and more so another very effective tool in your arsenal if you know what you're doing!

I had never heard of that game before and now I'm deeply, deeply in love with it.

It's such an adorable game! Stage 3's boss and route can completely change based on how much score you have too by playing with the bomb mechanics.

the dynamite pack in blood has been one of the most satisfying throwing grenades i've used in a video game. it honestly felt like you primary weapon, caleb's equivalent to doom guy's supershotgun(despite caleb having a shotgun himself) with how much dynamite you get and how useful it is.
