I did give BRC a try. Its definitely gives off Jet Set vibes, but honestly, it just made me rather play Jet Grind Radio or Jet Set Radio Future again. Worth a shot for a fan though.
It definitely scratched the itch, at least temporarily. I liked how you didn't have to equip individual graffiti, instead leaning towards pattern memorisation for your favourites.
But it was too straight-forward. Turf fights were purely score-attack challenges (and easy ones at that). The police were pushovers. The bosses sucked.
I'd play a sequel, though.
Finished it on 2023. I freaking love it. But it would have been more cool if the characters felt different just like the main inspiration (especially with cyberfunk having 3 types of vehicles) but I would gladly pay for a sequel. Also I love the reference to Jet from Lethal league blaze
I never got to play any Jet Set Radio but I’ve always been really aware of it, even though BRCF is a Knock Off/Love Letter I really loved playing it, music and vibe really rad.
I think the point of the gameplay was to experiment finding different combos of the stage layouts rather than having some direct push back or challenge?
I played the game when it came out and finished it that same weekend. A lot of people might disagree with me considering the "Overwhelmingly Positive" rating on the Steam page, but honestly, the game has all the style and NONE of the substance of JSR. I'd even go as far to call it "copied homework". The game was SEVERELY overhyped and definitely should NOT have had its price tag be $40 USD, as there simply isn't enough content to warrant it being that high in my opinion.
There's also been a lot of drama that's come out from the dev team as well, most of my judgement really goes towards the hypocrisy of the devs, (specifically the director, Dion Koster) like saying that they WEREN'T trying to replicate JSRF and insisting the BRC was DIFFERENT, but then basically just made JSRF but with bigger locations (each map basically being a counterpart for something within JSRF). I really hope that if they do make a sequel to the game, they focus on creating a more unique setting with improved gameplay, since it all felt really one-note and undercooked.
I discovered Jet Set Radio a few years ago and I loved the music and art style but the controls were just way too terrible to suffer through… is Bombrush any better in that regard?

It similar to Jet Set Radio Future, but retains the "minigame" (of sorts) from the original.
Personally, I love JG(/S)R. I think mastering the movement is fun itself. BRC is more streamlined.
Are Bomb Rush Cyberfunk and Lethal League related to one another, besides having Naganuma do the music for both? We're have so many JSR-inspired games coming out lately – Sunset Overdrive is another one – and now a new JSR is apparently coming out, too! WHAT GIVES
FELLOW LUNACID ENJOYER!!!!
To answer your question, I did put together my signature myself, but I used renders from the Miraheze wiki and my avatar is a render someone in the Kira discord made from the ingame model of Calamis.
I personally prefer BRCF to the original Jet Set, to me, the controls were much tighter and more intuitive. While both games still got sauce to em, I would sooner replay BRCF then JSR.
Man, do I have a lot of emotions for BRC. The gameplay was extremely fun, level design was great, music was pretty good, visuals were both fresh yet nostalgic. As a bonus, the modding community for this game is much larger than I thought it'd be.
But... the story. All of my gripes are regarding the story. It started off interesting, but it went nowhere, mostly just circled in place, and then it just... stopped. Not even a proper, satisfying ending. Just a stop. I will never get over how Escher, who might've had tons of lore and story behind him,
especially with how the intro with Red sort of implies that Escher might be an AI/robot... he gets smacked with a skateboard in a cutscene and is never seen again. Like come on, Red can survive a gunshot in a cutscene, but Escher can't even survive a stick on wheels??? It just screams wasted potential.
Character development was pretty much non existent, too. Heck, characters in general were very flat. I know it's a stylistic choice probably, for everyone to have a singular expression, but I can't get over how
Tryce looks at Red/Felix being decapitated with the most uninterested and bored :| face I've ever seen LOL
If a BRC 2 ever exists, I really hope they work on the story. Some more replay value would be nice, too.
