I liked the OVAs but I can hardly find the original manga (in 3 volumes). The Japanese title is 青の6号:

It has been translated to English, right?

I watched the first episode of the OVA and, while the artwork was very good, I felt the plot was dreadfully slow and uninteresting. Not my cup of tea, but it was certainly well-put-together.

Thanks a lot! Sad that obscure non Shonen Jump mangas are hard to come by.
I had spoke about this Community working together for stuff like this and similar, don't know if anybody read those. You can find them on my profile, looking through what I've posted. Maybe you could help inspire others on here to start stuff up, like that. I say I'd be a great help.

I loved the OVA. Did you know there was a very cool Dreamcast game as well? It has a fan translation.

Despite how 90's the CGIs are they've aged strangely well (maybe because most were used for things such as ships so this blends better).

Yeah, I've watched the full thing yesterday. I'd love to see a movie edit of the whole thing.

It was released as a film in Europe and shown on Toonami, but Europe has never had an official physical release of the anime since its broadcast.
I remember watching it twice on Toonami, the premier in 2000 & then a reshowing 2002?
Imported the DVD from America in like 2009 and you can chose to buy either the Episodic or theatrical cuts.
No subs, but the option for the era is welcomed.

There is a really nice Blu-ray release, Subs only... For Asia/North America.

Time & Tide (The Dreamcast game) is phenomenal and its a shame no western publisher picked up the license. It's a prequel to the OVA with original animation by the same team, musical composers, writers & even the same Voice actors reprise their roles.
There's a PS1 Strategy game too

The manga has never been translated and pro will probably never receive any translation due to a lack of interest and the west only being familiar with the Gonzo re-imagining.
But google lens is your friend. ;)
Studio Gonzo did attempt to make a live action film in the mid 2000nds based on their 1998 OVA but funding fell through.

God I love Blue Six

Behold. Speed Jazz/Bebop. The best genre for combat music:
The Thrill really blew the soundtrack out of the park.

And here is the beautiful main theme:

It's often tragic when something is meant to be a bigger franchise but ultimately fails and is only a semi-niche thing.

I'm still glad it exists and people can still watch it.
