Hello everyone. Today i share with you a little mission of mine.
Blue_Roses_Yousei_to_Aoi_Hitomi_no_Senshitachi-Coverart.jpg

Translate the tactical RPG "Blue Roses: Yousei to Aoi Hitomi no Senshitachi" developed by ApolloSoft and published by Nippon Ichi Software
for the PSP handheld console in 2010.
Let me start by saying that i understand nothing about romhacking and i started studying with this project.
I'm currently understanding the hex tables, how to extract the encrypted text file, where it is based on how the game was programmed etc etc..
As a point of reference I use the sources of romhacking to start with the basics.
I often try to find complete patch documentation just to understand the method of approaching a romhack for psp.
Even if this doesn't give certain results since each game is built differently from the other.
Once I really understand how hexadecimal values work. i then need to understand how to extract, decrypt and edit the right file.
Create the tables with a hexeditor and patch. (And let's not forget that there maybe some graphic changes to be made).
If you would like to leave any kind of advice, I would be infinitely grateful.
The idea of collaborating is obvious.

I'll limit myself to translating all the dialogues, with the help of a native speaker friend
, ラムネ RaMuN

Who I thank very much for all his advice or help 🫵::peek

The tools I'm using :

UMDGen with which i can extract and modify the .iso files via ppf patches.
Textractor to extract texts, but not edit them. I can simply identify the string it belongs to, then view the text and translate it.

digipet_PSP by Bunkai9448 related to this link Bunkai's Tinkering, Serve yourself (games with table and text offsets included)
best source I've found

Other tools to mention :
pspdecrypt
PGD encrypter
UMDReplaceK
quickbms
TranslationAggregator

Chiitrans

With great humility I greet you and I hope to update you soon with actual progress.

Thanks to the help of AnonymousCookieMonster
we obtained the decompressed files with almost all the game information inside. Performed an extraction and decompression of the .GMZ files contained in GAMEDATA.CFI.
Which becomes
available to support me during the project as head of hacking operations (tool writer, debugger etc.) Which I thank very much again ! [psp] GAMEDATA.CFI
Now the hunting for text strings in the code begins. Technically we need to decompile the files to trace the code.
Put like that it seems simple, but it's not at all.
There are many different types of operations to do.

I managed to decrypt the eboot.bin in which I found an evident part of text regarding the effect states, other statistics and menus.

With T++ inside \btlmap\bm i found other texts!

Translation of texts.
Currently slow for technical operations.
But these days I continue the work of translating the dialogues.
While the Start Menu has already been translated and needs to be revised by ラムネ RaMuN.
And then I'll post the results so you can take a look too.

I hope to be able to extract clean lines of code from the texts that I can edit as soon as possible,
and start with the first tests of compression.

Thanks again to ラムネ RaMuN & AnonymousCookieMonster for the great support they are giving to this project.

I wish you good luck with this project, I would really like to know how to translate some roms too, but there are many things to know before doing anything else.

Thank you... there is always a beginning !
Everything I learn I will bring back here so that it becomes useful. 🫡

Would love to be able to play this someday! Very niche, but I’ve always been interested in it.

I'm assisting in some technical stuff (extracting and packing), and it sounds like he's making progress. I hope it's a project that can come to a conclusion soon.
