Blue Dragon (Xbox 360, 2006)​

This game always got me curious about when i first saw it. It was made by Mistwalker the studio founded by Sakauguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger based in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA where he lives his life nowadays. They had the late Akira Toriyama do the character designs for the game just like he did for Chrono Trigger previously. This was an Xbox 360 exclusive and it was intented to appeal to the 360's market in Japan, back when Microsoft was trying to get a Japanese audience. I thought the Shadows creatures mechanic was pretty neat mixed with Turn based elements of old JRPGs that i heard gets really dificult. To my surprise, it got 2 sequels on the Nintendo DS and ended up quite being an overlooked franchise that didn't took off.​

Goldeneye pause screen, all of Streets of Rage 2, Blue Dragon's boss music. None of them needed to go so hard, but they did. That game has aged like fine wine, it's actually been building a cult following lately. I hope Xenia gets more people on their team soon so I can play it again one day.

the 360 had a good bunch of great jrpg, probably the last stronghold of the great turn base mechanic

Blue Dragon is like a black pearl to me, i have it in my personal second place 360 jrpg top ten;
liked even a bit more than Lost Odyssey here, the start may seem childish, but then a great journey begins

I'll be honest, blue dragon, gameplay wise is the better than lost odyssey, story wise lost odyssey was better, the ending of blue dragon annoyed the hell out of me at the time though.

Damn i need to beat it though . Im right now at the 2nd DVD . I wonder if the game opens up like Dragon Quest or is it going to be still linear overall ?

I still will beat it even with its linearity overall .

But still a major gripe i had till the 2nd DVD right now that it is so linear . While the story is a bit predictable , it has some great moments already and i like the world how it is with its ancient tech and civilisation and weird monsters that are a mix of Dragon Quest with a own spin .

Honestly , i think the american cover looks great on its own . Its on point and a bit more grand overall . Both covers are actually great .

It'd not bad, but you gotta admit hiring Toriyama and then not getting him to do the cover is a big fumble.

that boss music is from Ian Gillian from Deep Purple... you know, a baka gaijin.. well to be fair Nobuo Uematsu might have wrote it as he's the games overall composer, but I dont know, everything just mentions those two names... damn this game was cool.. it got kinda shit all over at the time and still does to some degree.. a lot of people just called "generic" and "microsoft throwing money around to try to get jrpgs", which is funny, because YEAH they knew they had a weak spot in the first xbox when it came to bad ass Japanese games and tried to fix it for the 360 and actually did a fantastic job.. some of the best jrpgs and japanese shooters of that generation came out on the early xbox360.. I loved this game, I remember hundred percenting it, especially trying to max out everyones job levels.. I luved pirate girl Zola... still havent played the DS version or watched the anime, even though theyre in my files... I gotta get to them..
