Black Metal thread

I don't know if it fits, but I can't help but mention Rot's grindcore

kkk true, but not to mention the stuff, I really liked Sarcofago in the distant 90s

Carach Angren. Good stuff, very symphonic if that's your dig:

For Mayhem/Dead fans, here's Pelle's band before Mayhem:

Speaking of classics, can't forget Samhain. Here's them before they started dabbling in industrial:

Here are a few I like.
I'm a pretty new/casual listener though so I don't really know a lot of cool esoteric stuff.
Post automatically merged:

Sure, have a few tracks:
Oh crap your post reminds me that I totally forgot to check out those songs you recommended to me a while back. Gotta get on that. ::bigboss

I listened to some of the bands from the 90's norwegian scene, but I really only have affection for the subgenres unfolded by Neige, from Alcest, when he started to mix black metal to shoegaze in the late 00's.

What happens then is that he inspired a movement that seeks to paint the black metal frame adding up other colors and emotions as well. So I know It might already deviate this thread from the strict "black metal" genre (something inevitable, though), but I wanted to share some of these "blackgaze" / "post-blackmetal" / "don't know how they call it" bands anyway.

Alcest - Printemps Emeraude (from Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde, 2007)

Lantlôs - Minusmensch (from .neon, 2010)

An Autumn for Crippled Childen - Try Not To Destroy Everything You Love (from the album of the same name, 2013)

Winona - Deafheaven (from Lonely People With Power, 2025)

And I also want to recommend you to listen to a brazilian band (also spired by Alcest), called Kaatayra! They usually have Nature as the "lyrical I", expressing all their hate agains the Man and his "progress". Instrumentally we have lots of percussion, harmonies and arrangements from brazilian folk genres!

They have two albums I want to mention: Nascido Sob o Signo Incivilizatório (2019), which is also inspired by Miyazaki's Mononoke Hime; and Só Quem Viu o Relâmpago à Sua Direita Sabe (2020), which is also heavy but they changed the electric guitars to brazilian traditional acoustic guitars.

Can't believe I forgot about this one
From the amazing cover art, the most likely nonsensical lyrics, the vocals that bring Battletoads to mind to the out of tune guitars (as proudly proclaimed in the liner notes) this is a beautiful parody of what was the most grim, kvlt, nekro and frostbitten about black metal circa 1996.

Really good stuff being shared so far, some of which I'll have to check out!

So I know It might already deviate this thread from the strict "black metal" genre
Don't worry about that, I should've specified subgenres were welcome! Regarding Kataarya, this is another interesting avant-garde black metal project, only piano/synth, drums and vocals:

holy fuckin shit i didn't know holland had good black metal 😂 only BM band i know from there is Liar of Golgotha and well.....they're not exactly the best
i mean it could always be better, but this wasn't really it for me

My second favorite metal subgenre. If I list all black metal bands I've listened I would never finish. So I'll let a song of my favorite band.

I don't think I can ever take this vid seriously again
To be fair, I don't think it was ever meant to be taken seriously hahaha Immortal have always been consciously goofy and self-aware and I love them for that
