Anyone ever seen this its like a movie for a video game that was never made.

I have not. My first thought was it looks like a cheap knock-off of Suckerpunch, only to realize this movie came out 3 years earlier.

You wanna kick ass popcorn flick starring hot chicks?

Dude, no. That movie fucking sucks and is Zack Snyder's worst creation. And given that he's the guy who gave us Rebel Moon and the Snyderverse*, that's a bloody accomplishment.

*And I type this as someone who actually LIKES the Snyderverse's first outing, Man of Steel.

You boys in the form really don't like the Grindhouse movement, it being a loving throwback to exploitation genre flics of the 70's directors such as Rodriguez grew up watching.

Anyway. Threads been derailed by SP so here's my ten cents.

If you watch Sucker Punches directors cut, it's a great action film depicting a tale of female empowerment and the struggle against male abuse in a tri layered narrative where the protagonists retreats further into her fantasies as a coping mechanism for abuse.

The fact people reacted to Sucker Punch by calling it sexist means they completely failed to understand the idea that women can take the male prevision thrust upon them and weaponize it into the tools which will grant their emancipation. I guess the "I own that sh!t" messsaging only works if the women saying it are poorly written & obnoxious. Not through creative visual design.

Or the theatrical release was that bad it absolutely destroyed the film's messaging.

Go watch the directors cut, it's Snyder's best original work.
I say that because Army of the Dead & Rebel moon proved he's a director who works best with restrictions placed on his eccentricities. He needs some one to bounce off of otherwise everything is a 4 hour endurance challenge where great ideas are just left to wallow in a sea of slow pacing.

His best adaptation being: The Owls of Ga'Hoole

Dude, I DID watch the director's cut, and it's NOT "Snyder's Best Original Work", it's his WORST.

See, this is why I hate you Sucker Punch Fanboys: You're the same flavour of deranged lunatic as DCEU fanboys (aka. SnyderBots), but because of the fact Sucker Punch appears to be an original story (it's not. It doesn't even actually have a story. Once The Nameless Protagonist gets her lobotomy, the story is ditched for a nonsensical series of events involving in-your-face feminist preaching, pondering action scenes with mary sue protagonists who take no damage (barring one who dies because the script says so) and lame covers of beloved 1970s rock songs), you end up worshipping it as a cinematic masterpiece, like it's the second coming of Raiders of the Lost Ark or something. Just because it's original, or looks original, does NOT make it a good film, and to act like originality always equals good is to miss the point of what makes good fiction.

But hey. I'm just an average joe. I must be too "small-brained" for Snyder's genius to realise that overstylised bullshit with mary sue protagonists who take no damage is good. I mean, it's not like one of my favourite films (and one of the highest grossing films of 1999 at that) is a science fiction action film that is also stylised, but tells a compelling, engaging story about a lowly hacker who becomes a god-like messiah by learning to believe in himself.... OH WAIT.

Hey *whispers*
If you want to engage in fair criticism, then you need to state by what standard is Sucker Punch Snyders "worst" original film. The easiest way to do that would be to state another Snyder original film which you feel is better, state why and and use that as the standard.
Oh and if we're being disingenuously contrarian, Dark City is the better film ::smug

It's just a poorly written, poorly thought out film. I'm not even being a contrarian. I'm judging it by the standards of similar action films that have something to say. And yes, Dark City is slightly better (another of my favourite films), but I'm sorry. The Matrix is the best comparison point for Sucker Punch because in that movie, not only is the storyline actually well-written, thought out, and engaging, but the themes of belief and truth are interwoven with the character journeys and UNLIKE Sucker Punch... Our heroes take damage and can lose a fight, meaning that the stylised action is significantly more engaging and gripping.

With Sucker Punch, not only was it our first glimpse into how Zack Snyder cannot write a story to save his life, but it's also a glimpse into what would define his filmography: Edgy, try-hard, overly-serious guttertrash with a self-righteous sense of pomp, ego and importance that becomes utterly unbearable even from the moment the film begins, all because Zack thinks his shit don't stink and his movie thinks its shit don't stink either. This is why Sucker Punch is so terrible: It's utterly dumb and meaningless, but it has such ego and delusions of grandeur that I and many others can't help but despise it in all its unholy madness.
But then again, you're a guy who watches Media Grifters and is obsessed with horse-themed gachashit (UmaMusume), so maybe my counterarguments are falling on deaf ears.

EDIT: And sorry, but most of his other original work is garbage too. He just blows.

It's just a poorly written,
The fact you still couldn't provide a standard is all I needed to hear

But if you can sit through six+ hours of Rebel moon and honestly tell me its better than Sucker Punch.
Please, I would be interested in hearing why you think this.
The Matrix is the best comparison point for Sucker Punch because in that movie,
Considering Sucker Punch has no wider mythology beyond the "Mental world" trope.
Something thats not present in the Matrix.
Nor are any of the actions undertaken by Babydoll and the team extend to anything remotely close to super human.
Their wildest delusions are manifestations of mundane real world actions, from breaking a lock to stealing a lighter and overpowering a physically stronger male staff member...
How is that comparable to any of the programs, sentinels the aware humans or natural born citizens of Zion?
There is no manipulation of the simulation to gain superhuman powers, no antagonistic force is even aware of what's happening from the girls perspective in Sucker Punch.
It's a completely different thematic set up.

How is the Matrix is similar? ::cirnoshrug

Heck, sucker punch has three layered narrative because the abuse the girls suffer on the first layer (reality) intrudes on the second (appeasement) when its heinous enough, leading to the third layer (rebellion) That has nothing to do with virtual reality as depicted in the Matrix, eXistenz, the thirteenth floor and even in none VR fiction such as Dark City it has external forces directly manipulating the eponymous Dark City.
The Matrix has one consistent thematic layer, going into the Matrix isn't some separate state of reality to the point the films go to a ludicrous extreme to show that injuries are universal.
Being in the Matrix It's not an abstract narrative tool.
It's a tangible, accessible location just as Space is in Star Trek. It's all real, whether in or out of the simulation, even time passes consistently.

None of that is present in Sucker Punch.

Conceptually it has more in common with Inception/Paprika and even they lack the hallucinatory aspect of interacting with the real world whilst experiences delusions.

Sucker Punch is not a power fantasy, its a collaborate effort to save someone from a terrible fate because defiance is better than subservience. You may feel annoyed that not all the girls escape.
But that's the point. The system is abusive, to be free of it in any capacity is a victory.
Zack Snyder cannot write a story to save his life,
That's a valid subjective opinion, but then why do you care if some one else enjoys something you do not?

Not everything is made for you

Oh, wow. You're being a complete and total fartsniffing pretentious hipster who is further overhyping his favourite terrible, self-righteous, poorly written, tryhard delusional trashfest whilst insulting me and using strawmen. In other words, A SNYDERBOT.

You know what? I'm done with you. You want to worship trash fiction as the second coming of The Ten Commandments? So be it. Know that you have further proven to me that your kind is some of the worst people to ever grace film fandom and the discussion surrounding it ever. Good day. And good riddance.

You know what? I'm done with you.

Again, not everything is made for you.

Simply because I or some one else enjoys something you dislike shouldn't lead to such rage lol

Then again I shouldn't have taken the time to try & articulate why others may enjoy something you do not when your reaction has been to repeatedly try a personal attack...
Against a stranger you know nothing personal about over the internet
Not to criticise but I sense a slight flaw in your plan. 🙃
Yet here we are.jpg

Nah I recommend this movie with Robert Englund"aka Freddy Kruger"

A zombie epidemic spreads throughout a strip club in Nebraska.
