Biggest Tragedy in the Gaming Industry

Not sure if it's the biggest, but Japan Studios shutdown
View attachment 60814
Yeah, I saw this. Too bad. My buddy desperately wants a new Ape Escape. I don't think he's gonna get it. He's feeling what I felt for a long time until N.Sane Trilogy dropped, and now that Crash 5 got canned I feel it again lol.

only company I feel no sorry if it get closed is UBIBOG they ruin hardworks and always use copy paste for every game.
I feel you on that. But also, me and my buddy were talking about this, and we both agreed that we don't want to see Ubisoft go under, just wish they could get rid of some of their higher ups and get back on track. They used to be so cool. But I think them getting shutdown would be the best outcome right now.

Sega didn't disappear, they just stopped making consoles and are now a third-party studio.
Well I know that the joined Sony. I mean for a lot of old fans Sega is dead now. They less talk about new games made for sonic. Just Sonic and Mario Olympic. They stop fighting.
In fact Sega always had a hostile policy against Nintendo.even in villain and hero design!

The fact that Sony has closed Japan Studios really is a tragedy, most of the Playstation's most iconic titles came from them.

I always hate their weird bugs. I know even red dead have bugs but they just made new one.
Now I remember lions live under water in origin. Cutscene with long no content. Most mistake was delete parry skill and insta kill from assassin creed.
Assasin creed always have some sort of things like it never happens in France or specific countries.
They always kidding with religious.
Well I can say Prince of Persia......bro don't even know how a Persian look like!

Sega didn't join Sony, they literally release games for both Microsoft and Nintendo consoles, what the hell are you talking about?

Sega and Sony have had a complex relationship, marked by competition and, at times, collaboration. Sega, with its consoles such as the Sega Saturn, was a strong competitor of Sony, with the PlayStation, and both competed intensely for the market, especially in Japan and the United States.

Competition and Rivalry:

Sega and Sony were direct rivals in the console market, with Sega trying to match or surpass the success of the PlayStation.

Sega even claimed that it would be easy to knock off PlayStation, demonstrating its confidence in its own capabilities.

Sega even had to resort to asking Sony for help in producing PlayStation game packaging, as Sony was unable to produce enough of it.

Sega also prepared to launch a large quantity of Saturns onto the market to swamp Sony's supply when the PlayStation was launched.

Collaboration and Interesting Events:

In 1993, Sony and Sega almost struck a deal to create a CD-ROM for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive console, but the deal fell through due to disagreements.

Initially, Sega didn't believe in Sony as a hardware and software company, and rejected a partnership with Sony to develop a new console.

Sega ended up releasing a CD-ROM for the Genesis/Mega Drive, the Sega CD, which was a modest success.

Sega also launched the Sega Saturn, which was an attempt to remain competitive with Sony and Nintendo.

Conclusion:

Sega and Sony have had a complex relationship, with moments of competition and collaboration. Sega, with its Sega Saturn, tried to surpass the success of the PlayStation, but failed to achieve the same level of success. Sony, on the other hand, established itself as a giant in the video games market with the PlayStation and its subsequent generations.

Ape escape is my second favorite Sony platforming series. Ape escape 3 was my favorite Sony ps2 game. :(

wow, didn't know that CD add on bit. I like how both Sega and Nintendo told Sony to kick rocks, and lost one of the greatest pieces of potential they were given. Sony really shit on their cereal didn't they lol.

Maxis and Thinking Tools. Some guy here wrote articles about it.

#Shameless_plug.

C'mon Namco, get Ape Escape license for a remastered collection for Switch/Switch 2, PC and PS5

I didn't know Maxis was a thing. I don't play a lot of sims, and never really got into The Sims. But it is quite tragic that it had to be EA that was their saving grace so to speak. Spore is one of my favorite games though, didn't know they did that.

Since we are here, there is also most studios i covered in the Text-adventures article, especially Infocom and Legend Entertainment, which died due to the fact that text-adventures were on their way out of the mainstream.

Or how every Activision acquisition ends up in the Call of Duty mines.
Or how EA likes to kill everything they touch.

Yeah, hopefully something can be done with Ape Escape. I'm hoping Snake vs Monkey is in Metal Gear Delta lol.

Call of Duty will forever be my most hated franchise. Was good back in the day. It's the reason Crash 5 got canned though, so the hatred burns. MW2019 was the last one I liked. The story to that was badass.

I haven't played a bunch of Text Adventures, so I don't have anything of note to say, but some of the stuff these guys made looks really cool. I think Text based games these days get a lot of flak for not being interesting but I think there were a lot of cool things that devs were doing with these. I remember playing one based on Doom, I don't remember the name, but it was quite fun actually.

I think my "gaming tragedy" would be Pandemic Studios shutting down. They had a lot of potential. Though I hope that the former people in the company are doing okay.
I never played their games but If their use gas mask as logo their should be great😁😁(*remember it shutdowned*) oh and I didn't notice them? That's bad

LMAO yes the gas mask was pretty eye-catching. Also my bad I didn't really give a shoutout on the games they made, they were behind the Star Wars: Battlefront and Destroy All Humans series.

when they shut down Japan Studio forever, killing all my hope for a new Ape Escape or a new Patapon game. (And maybe even a new LocoRoco game)
Also:
YOU'RE TELLING ME THERE WAS GONNA BE A CRASH TWINSANITY REMAKE?!
AND IT NEVER HAPPENED?!
THAT GAME WAS MY CHILDHOOD!

Yeah, LucasArts especially. I wish those old Star Wars projects didn't get cancelled. KOTOR3 would've been stellar.
I miss LucasArts dearly, but to be honest... their closure wasn't surprising news. They had gone through so many changeovers with their management, their goals, and the way they operated. I was fortunate to know someone who had worked there for many years, and though they weren't around at the very end, the general feeling was that the studio had simply been put out of its misery

It's a fascinating story, and well-worth reading into.

Like a lot of studios, LucasArts / Lucasfilm Games started small. Their main offices were on Skywalker Ranch, and they were given pretty much free reign to develop their games, with only a few specific rules:

1. Don't use Star Wars
2. Don't lose money
3. Don't embarrass the Lucasfilm brand

As great - and beloved - as many of the Star Wars games were, it also kinda signaled the beginning of the end. In a nutshell, LucasArts was given the OK to make Star Wars games as part of a larger effort to revive the Star Wars brand - and bring in money - in advance of the release of the prequel trilogy.

That meant that the LucasArts mantra went from "don't lose money" to playing the role of moneymaker, almost overnight. New management was brought in, the pressure on the developers started to ramp-up, etc, etc. It wasn't so bad for the first few years, but once the prequels were deep in production (and post-production) the work culture and internal structure had changed dramatically.

Given all the turnover during that era, I'm actually kind of surprised the studio lasted as long as it did.

Apologies for the rant, but yeah, this is something that hits pretty close to home 😭

When they shut down the tango studio.....oh so we never gonna see another evil within,do we?
This one hurt. I loved Ghostwire Tokyo and Shinji Mikami is one of the great game designers of the world as far as I'm concerned. Ikumi Nakamura leaving the company was already a hard pill to swallow, but then the whole dang thing gets shutdown? I'm still sore about it...
