So I'm sure many people are aware of, or have seen, the discussions on here and elsewhere over what the best year or years for gaming were. I don't think I've ever seen a similar discussion in regards to anime, so lets have it here!

My pick would go to 2007. Not just because this was the year I really started to get into anime outside of what was being broadcast on TV where I live, but because when I look back on this year I really think it had so many quality releases, with multiple of them being amongst my favorite anime of all time. Shows such as; Gurren Lagann, Darker than Black, Lucky Star, Mononoke, Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei, Baccano! & Kotetsushin Jeeg as well as movies like Sword of the Stranger and Evangelion 1.0 among so many others.

Curious to hear what everyone else thinks.

It seems late 80s - early 90s animes has the most "we worked so hard on visuals and animations" without much pervert BS while these years can't find anime without soft-porn elements + the bloom effect going so hard can't see shit + "dude did you draw this on Microsoft Paint and just implemented effects on After Effects?" + I can count animation frames so easily + tons of generic fan service BS + weird usage of 3D stuff that seem like how news channels show how an event happened to old people lol.

I mean to be completely fair there was a lot "soft-porn elements" in anime from the 80's and 90's, in fact it could be argued that's where the whole fan-service trend even started. I agree about modern anime's over reliance on 3D and bloom and other lighting filters, I suppose at least with the 3D stuff that's more a symptom of the state of the actual industry more than anything. It's why I picked 2007 as my personal favorite year. It was past the awkward initial switch to more overly digital productions of the early 2000's and before the oversaturation of 3D. The whole late 2000's were something of a renaissance period for anime I feel. Felt like directors and animators were given a lot more freedom and were able to take more risks. I also really liked that this era gave us a lot of anime original series. i.e. shows not based on a manga or other existing property.

95-05
in that era was YO GE OH
And peak Pokemon and
and these other
Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, and Cowboy Bebop
like To be honest
Pokemon and YO-GI-OH it self made it the best Era

YUGIOH was so great man. GiTS, Lain, Azumanga Daioh, Initial D, .hack//sign, Monster, Aria, You're under arrest etc makes the late 90's to mid 00's the best era for me

Some did, not all or at least most as how it's since like a decade. Gotta blame Neon Genesis Evangelion for soft-porn BS popularity which happened after the early 90s though.

2020-1 for me, only because I was stuck home and couldn't do much of anything else but trying out (and catching up with) a LOT of anime I hadn't had time for before -- I particularly liked stuff like Diary Of Our Days At Breakwater and Dr Stone.

Holy cow, all this is 2007!? And now that you got me looking, that year also had Kaiji, Ghost Hound & Genshiken S2. Huh!? Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit is also there? Dennou Coil TOO!?
Ok, it's official. My favorite anime year is 2007 now.

It was an absolutely stacked year. Bangers back to back.

The 80s had a ton of bangers from the many unique experiences from the Tomino anime (Ideon, Dunbine, and Xabungle), works like Votoms and Dancougar that experimented with how they were written and finally Zeta Gundam, the biggest upgrade of all time for it's period after watching 0079.
