She might not be best girl in the manga, but Nikaido's sure as hell one of the best supporting
characters in any manga/anime.

Char as Quattro is pretty neat in Zeta Gundam (the sole good point of that whole thing in my book). The shift from rival to mentor is a pretty interesting turn (let's forget CCA ruins his progression for a moment, there).

 

[Super Funky Piece]

one that comes to mind is Roy Focker from the original Macross TV series since he's just an all around solid dude that lightens up any situation but is still competent when the moment calls for it. i think he's noteworthy given much like Char he's an archetype that usually has some iteration in every sequel and often other mecha shows entirely. big emphasis on the TV series version though, in the movie he's just kind of a downright rowdy asshole.
