There are so many great Sonic music that it seems almost impossible to choose just one.

Sonic R OST is probably the best Sonic OST ever.

But, there is one music that when I hear, I remind instantly of the joy of playing a Sonic game:

I'd go with the ol' reliable

Not because of personal taste (although it is my second favorite song in the series), but because I think it represents (classic) Sonic better than any other song in the classic trilogy

The second part of the song is the best example of what I mean; the melody rises, reaches a peak, descends and repeats, almost like is going up and down a rollercoaster.
Sonic gameplay (at least in the classic games) is just that. Reaching the peak of a hill, rolling down it to gain momentum, using said momentum for another obstacle that makes you rise again, rinse and repeat

If 06 is the king of anything, it’s music, and I’m not ashamed to say it has my favorite soundtrack in total of the series. This is a more recent development in my heart, but I know it to be true due to the more detailed and somber tone it takes on comparison to its contemporary titles. It just has a complexity to it that I respect, while still being more than able to let its hair down to become a rocking beauty. Dreams of an Absolution is the ultimate example of what I mean, and the king of the hill in terms of remixes of this classic is the “LB vs JS” remix. I’ve loved this song to pieces ever since I first heard it it at the tender age of ten, back around 2013 or so. Game aside, character aside, all must bow before its majesty of being a total banger and vibe while also having a positive message that’s delivered with the exact amount of cheese to not be overbearing.

(This was not a decision I come to lightly. I have well over 50 other songs I want to nominate and give flowers to. But this is the one that I would stand behind the hardest when brought to just one.)
