Best remakes?

okay so simple answer if you want more content FF2 PSP no question.
to explain a bit more:
extra dungeons and boss fights and new equipment.
and soul of rebirth which is only on GBA or PSP which is roughly as long as FF2 itself, happening alongside the main story (it'll make sense when you play it, its spoilerly)
and to me it just looks better graphics.

on pixel remaster you got, turn on/off random battles, 2 to 4x stat gain/ money options, full dungeon maps (with chests, and a count of how many are left), a sorta interactive bestiary, and the choice of old or new music. but it "looks" sorta like a HD NES game, if you like NES objects and character visuals that's what you get.
NO SOUL OF REBIRTH MODE, this is solely alone the reason NOT to play pixel remaster to me hands down. NO EXTRA DUNGEONS OR BOSSES
so you basically get bare-boned FF2 from NES with "some" enhancements, and zero extras
you'd be disappointed lacking the PSP extras,
Thanks to this comment I've finally decided to play FF2 (was in my psp backlog since so much time!). I have a modded vita so I'm playing PSP version, I have little patience to grind so I activated the money cheat and I'm currently enjoying it!! I also like that in this version during the dialogue you see characters portraits, they're gone in pixel remaster.

Project 06. It turns an infamously bad game into a great game by fixing all the bugs and tweaking the controls. It proves that underneath all the jank of 06 there was actually a great game underneath. It's fan made, so there's no bullshit like microtransactions, and it's free! As a game it's still not as amazing as SA1 or SA2, but it's the greatest remake of all time!

RE2 Remake was a revelation. Capcom knows how to refry their fried chicken.

REmake 4 is honestly an even better sequel, as it improves on REmake 2's gameplay whilst at the same time adding in new features, tweaks, and more refinements to make a game that's as replayable as the game it's remaking (Resident Evil 4).

Really, the only thing wrong with it was replacing Jolene Andrade with Lily Gao as Ada Wong. No disrespect to Lily, I'm sure she's a nice person in real life, but... Her performance definitely feels 'off', especially if you've played REmake 2 prior.

That is a very good question 🤔 we live in a time where many games from the past are being remade. Ok my favorites are Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth I also liked Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remake, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening (Switch), Metroid Prime Remastered (Switch), Shadow of the Colossus (PS4).

That's something I'd be glad to debate about since I still think that even with better controls and no glitches nor endless loading times the game would have still ended up as mediocre at best (and sorry but "great" is something that should only apply to games like Super Mario Galaxy or even Mass Effect if you want to go around the mid-00's). It should get an entire rework in story and level design but that would make it a completely different game altogether.

I do agree that sonic fans are making better games than Sega themselves (especially SRB2). I'd say that SA1 and 2 aren't "amazing" (Sonic 2, CD, 3&K and Mania could be qualified as such) but it's a more authentic sequel to those two.

As the ancient meme says:

I feel like the crown still has to go to REmake when it comes to remakes.
Keeps the spirit of the original alive while expanding it both mechanically and content-wise and also improving the visuals in a gorgeous, considered style.

Personally I also really enjoy Resident Evil 2 Remake, but with that one I can totally understand the argument that it loses too much of what defined the original to be considered on the same level as REmake.

(Also, Odin's Sphere is such a gem, I really wish Vanillaware would just port their catalogue to PC already!)
The only one that encapsulates the same feeling i got with System Shock(2023) was RE1 Remake, and that's because both games not only maintain the roots that made them great in the first place, but also improve and add little touches to become even better works of art, if RE2, RE3, were made like the RE1 remake (yeah fixed camera and everything, you know, like they should have) and in the case of 3 instead of completely removing content from the base game, they instead added more to it, then i would like them more.

I will always hold a grudge with RE4 remake because it was unnecessary to begin with (yes it was, don't cry at my tank controls, they were smooth as butter in 4), but it removed the charm (and even some sections of the og game) that it had, if i were to compare i would put it this way:

RE4 2004 is like the OG(and only good one) Total Recall, action, horror, cheesy one liners that are fitting for a seasoned protagonist (why in the actual fuck did capcom remove those in the remake just to make Leon a brooding bitch is anyone's guess), and overall just a fantastic work.

And then comes RE4 Remake taking itself "Seriously" all of a sudden (again, WHAT THE FUCK?!), with less charm than the og, instead we get those hd assets and scenarios, which honestly look convoluted as fuck if you ask me, seriously, that place has more junk and bones than a third world country communal cementery, instead of less, which made the setting of the village more believable. Characters that are more serious and look "good" in the sense that now everyone can fap to ashley without feeling regret (which i don't care and didn't back then) and the rest of the cast just feel like they read too much twilight with how broody as fuck they all feel, no codec styled calls between leon and the villains to make some ham wars between them, and outright some sections (and one boss) removed entirely, so yeah?, why remake perfection?

I really like Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, they were the first mainline Pokemon games I owned and I really love the atmosphere and story. (Delta Episode is really cool)

SA1 and SA2 are the best 3D platformers of all time!
That title I'd keep if for Mario 64.

But this isn't the right topic to debate on it.

Demon’s souls remake is a great remake.

Yakuza Kiwami 1+2 are such incredible remakes. I would also say Dragon Quest 1-3 on the SNES are fantastic remakes with new pixel art. Not necessarily a remake but mad respect for Atlus essentially rebooting Megami Tensei under Shin Megami Tensei from NES to SNES.
