Yeah, I've played other titles too, but I think these ones are great RPGs that can be recommended.

2000-2010 i was very poor. We're talking living on $600/mo and a lost of that went to rent and utilities and little left for anything else.

BUT, second hand i did pick up a number of titles. Still my top games are probably the ones i physically owned and could get my hands on; Well most of them.

Odin Sphere
Ar Tonelico
FF X / X-2 / 12

Yep, that's about the best ones i can think of. Runner up ones are Disgaea 1/2 and a few more.

I play mostly action-adventure games.So this is my list :

God of War 1/2 - Soild games showing what graphics the PS2 can push.
Devil May Cry 3 - Hideaki Itsuno most complete action game to this day.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - Iconic return for the Prince and the golden age for Ubisoft.
Okami - Zelda (kinda) game for the PS2.
Resident Evil 4 - Classic new age RE game,that is far better than remake of it.Came with the bonus DLC for the PS2 owners.
Onimusha 1/2 - Samurai era PSX RE inspired action games.Paving the way for the next gen action games.
Metal Gear Solid 3 - The next big game for the series and still my favorite.
Kingdom Hearts 2 - Best blend of Disney and SE for that era.
Spider-Man 2 - The game that started the spiderman series to be something more than average movie game adaptation.The movie was decent as well.
ICO - Before Shadow of the Colossus there was ICO.
SSX 3 - My favorire sports game to this day.Extreme fidelity in every way for this one.
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell - The next gen evolution of stealth games.
Rogue Galaxy - The best rpg for the PS2 IMO.
Valkyrie Profile 2 - Forgotten era game that was more than good.
Gran Turismo 4 - Polyphony Digital last great effort and work before they moved to the PS3.

Silent Hill 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 are potentially the greatest titles on the PS2 of all time

and probably lots more that I'm forgetting, the PS2 has one of the greatest libraries of all time. If you were on a desert island and somehow had access to electricity, this is the console you'd want with you.
