what are your personal best or objectively best ps2 games?... TELL ME. TELL ME!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the most life changing PS2 games for me will always be Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, I'll never forget the first time I finished it wanting to replay it again just for a different ending.

Xenosaga (all three)
Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter
Gran Turismo 4
FFX and FFXII
Klonoa 2
Rogue Galaxy
Star Ocean 3
Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3
Both Katamari games
Both God of War games
Twisted Metal Black

I enjoyed all three Grand Theft Auto games but I tend to gravitate towards the RPG/Action/Adventure genres.

Man, this is tough. I always thought that the PS2 had the best library ever. I'll probably unintentionally leave out some important games, but this is going off of what were my favorites as a kid.

-MGS 2 & 3
-Ace Combat (4/5/Zero)
-Mobile Suit Gundam: Zeonic Front
-Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space
-Resident Evil 4
-Persona 4
-Robot Alchemic Drive (RAD)
-Final Fantasy X
-Xenosaga trilogy

I feel bad for never playing any of the Sly games, but i legit never heard about them back in the day

I don't think I have a favorite ps2 game? Anyway, here's some memorable experiences I had with it:

Finding Nemo
Soul Calibur 3
Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Mega Man Anniversary Collection (does that even count lol)
Megaman X8
Crash Tag Team Racing
Crash of the Titans
Guitar Hero 80's and 2
Smack Down vs. Raw games
Katamari
Simpsons: Hit & Run
Mortal Kombat Deception and Armageddon
Sonic Heroes
Lego Star Wars
Galactic Wrestling: Featuring Ultimate Muscle
Sega Classics Collection

This isn't a "best of" list of any means, rather it's what I've played during its time.

EDIT: Actually Sega Classics Collection might be my favorite due to the Bonanza Bros remake included on it lol

Contra: Shattered Soldier
Urban Reign
Gradius V

All deserve mention among the GOATs of their respective genres.

God Hand
Kinnikuman Muscle Grand Prix Max 2: Tokumori
Devil May Cry 1 & 3
Ridge Racer V
Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution
Digital Devil Saga duology

Dog's Life

Those are the main ones off the top of my head. Other than that, bemani import stuff mainly.

Gosh, where to even start? For me, the PS2 is probably the best console, even today.

For me, though, the best game on the PS2 is Metal Gear Solid 2. A real showcase for the console's capabilities and a sign of how console games in general were moving, which makes it an even more impressive game, since many games after haven't come close, whether you look at story or gameplay.
MGS 2 really embodies the step up from PS1 to PS2. The way you can interact with the detailed 3D environments just couldn't have been done on the PS1, and a lot of games today don't do it for various reasons. The story is also something that I don't think could have been done on the PS1 (you could also argue it couldn't be done today, but that's too complex for me at the moment). The PS2 had a lot of games that aimed to tell more mature and complex stories (Silent Hill, Yakuza, Shadow of the Colossus), and while a lot of these games appeal more to me with their greater focus on conveying certain feelings and emotions, MGS 2 has a real blockbuster quality to it, matching the high stakes feeling of the gameplay, making it a thrill to play more than twenty years later.

FFX (i prefer the Vita version) or FFXII (international zodiac version)
Ultimate Mortal Kombat Deception (its a hack with so much content)
Lord of the Rings - The third age (yes, more final fantasy)
Outlaw Golf 2 (i think golf games are fun)
