Best mega drive standalone emulator?

Havent got one set up yet but seen that shredders re revenge hack on the repository so yeah i wanna have a go at it. Thanks for any help.

id love to be able to set retroarch up myself im glad its pre configured on the devices i play it on. I play standalones because it gives me something to do on my quiet time.

fusion is definitely the best one imo
it can also play game gear

I've always used Kega because it does SMS/SG-1000/Genesis/GG/32X/SCD and even if it's not as accurate as something newer, I don't know the difference.

Used Fusion for years and it's still great as an all-in-one emulator for Genesis, Master System, Sega CD, 32X and Game Gear

Blastem is pretty good, been tinkering around with it every so often. Still largely prefer Kega though

For Low End or Ultra-Low End PCs I recommend KEGA Fusion.
For Medium-Low End PCs I recommend jgenesis.

My laptop or mini PC can handle most stuff ive put onto them ill set the mini PC and put it on there given ive more space then the games can go onto my external drive.

Kega Fusion. It emulates the Mega Drive, 32X, Mega CD, Master System, and Game Gear.

Jgenesis, for the most part it's quite similar to kega, in it's compatibility and ease of use. It's only "weakness" right now is the absence of cheating methods.

I am the only one who mentioned jgenesis If you don't believe me, look at my comment which is #12 of the thread.

JGenesis and Ares. They emulate various sytems but the mega drive emulation is great

Fusion if you're not too attached to cycle accurate emulation.

Otherwise Blastem, Genesis plus GX on retroarch. Blastem is very fast and cycle accurate, but it doesn't support Mega CD or 32X. Genesis plus GX is also very accurate, its sound engine might be the best of all emulators, it also does Mega CD but no 32X.

And lastly Ares, the most demanding of them all, very good accuracy but Blastem and Genesis plus GX are just as good and run on any PC that isn't 20 years old, it does Mega CD too and it is also the best 32X emulator (the only one that can run the DOOM remake that combines Mega CD and 32X).

I haven't tried JGenesis yet, but I'll give it a go.

Ares is really heavy on performance, and it's not that good on accuracy, I've seen the jgenesis dev had to contribute some fixes for them.
Like for Monster World IV scrolling text intro, and some fix for the audio of Mega Drive.

Ive always used Kega/fusion, cause it is easy to configure its video options, to apply a bit of scanlines and "blur" to make it look smoother.
It runs anything related to Mega Drive (and its add-ons), and Master System too (I know the op mentioned "standalone", but it is a very common feature when it comes to Mega Drive emus, since this console had virtually a full Master Sys in its hardware).
Also, it has a good support for game genie codes.
