Best Game Boy Advance game that is not Pokémon

Not gonna mention all the abovementioned previously.

All the Nintendo first-party games are pretty much unmatched in GBA era and they went worse since then.

All the SRWs there, with J and the OG duology being the most prominent example.

And don't forget the elusive Metal Slug Advance.

I tried to get into the SRW games starting with the GBA ones, I couldn't go past that incredibly long intro even with a speed up button. Which is a shame because I know I would have love it as I already beat a Touhou game based on its gameplay.

The Castlevania trilogy (Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrow), Warioware, Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission, Crash Nitro Kart is really good, The DKC trilogy, the Mario Advance line-up, KH: Chain of Memories, Final Fantasy 1 and 2, Final Fantasy 5, I should also bring up 4 on GBA because that was my introduction to the Final Fantasy series, the Kirby GBA games (Nightmare in Dream Land and Amazing Mirror), and Yu-Gi-Oh! The Sacred Cards.

There's a Franklin game (the little turtle guy) that is way better than it has any right to be

Summon Night Swordcraft Story (excellent ARPG - I still go back to it regularly. Also has a sequel on the platform)

Ninja 5-0 (great action platformer but rare/expense for a hard copy)

For me, Definitely the Castlevania games. And I played Breath of Fire 1&2 so much that I would switch between my DS Lite and SP during charging. My experience with those versions was much better than SNES. I also got a ton of play from the Klonoa games.

Crash bandicoot the huge adventure
Sonic advance 1 and 2
Mega Man zero 1-4
Yugioh Dungeon dice monsters

Ecks vs Sever
Castlevania Circle of The Moon
Guilty Gear X
Turok: Evolution
Golden Sun

This is a solid thread, I'm going to have to take note of some of these and try them out.

My personal favorite three aren't terribly obscure, but they're all great

My recommendations:

  • Zoids Legacy
  • Zone of the Enders: Fist of Mars
  • Fullmetal Alchemist: Stray Rondo
  • Megaman Battle Network 2 ~ 6
  • Mother 3
  • Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis
  • Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age (use the Reloaded romhack for a better experience)
  • Shin Megami Tensei (the GBA port of the first SMT game)
  • Summon Night Swordcraft Story 1 & 2
  • Metroid Fusion
  • Super Robot Taisen Original Generation 1 & 2
  • Super Robot Taisen J (get the English translation version)
  • Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone
  • Riviera: The Promised Land

ABSOLUTELYYYY listen to that guy. That game is PEAK

Also, GTA Advance 4 life

Tales of the World - Narikiri Dungeon 2

I don't know why, I just kinda like it better than 3.

Also i love how indie developers compete every year to make Game Boy games over on Itch.io, but what drives me nuts is they never name their roms properly. They just call all of them, "game.gb" and that is such a pain in the ass when i download a bunch of them and i have no goddamn idea which is which.
