The poll is best overall OST. The thread is for best individual songs.

THIS CONSOLE’S MUSIC IS BLESSED! Punk rock, smooth jazz, hip hop… imagine being so talented musically.

What are some of the best Dreamcast songs?

Just some obvious bangers. These are SUPER obvious, but they needed saying regardless.

I had been thinking about Shenmue, but I hadn’t heard much music from it. That’s the only reason it’s not up there on the poll.

i would say with an air of my breath that it is the most immersive soundtrack on the console
each track fits not only the visual direction of the location you are in, but the personalities and moods of the individuals in those areas

Other: Skies of Arcadia...with Grandia II being an honorable mention.
Arcadia OST
yep those 2 are worthy af.... Guilty Gear X n SF 3rd Strike (or entire SF3 series) not DC exclusives ofc but I'll give them ze propers anywey. there's gotta be more that I'm havin trouble recalling... frustrating ack =o

Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica.

I was forced to pick Jet Set Radio but I also have to point out that PSO definitely deserved its own entry in the list!

The Dreamcast had some seriously underrated soundtracks! Apart from the obvious ones like Sonic Adventure and Jet Set Radio, I always thought Phantasy Star Online had an amazing atmospheric vibe that perfectly matched the game’s sci-fi setting.

What I really liked about Dreamcast music was how much variety there was — some games went full techno while others had orchestral pieces. It’s crazy how good the sound design was considering the hardware limitations of that time.

Too many great soundtracks from that console (and era of gaming) to choose only one.

I regret how the series took a different direction for its "audio identity". I didn't mind the more orchestral OST (among other techno tracks) for PSU since space opera and orchestra go well together but it started to miss that atmosphere and PSO2 is almost a bit too over the top with its ost.

It's saddening when you see how much the Sonic ost has regressed as a whole compared to the variety of music genre we got as far as 1998 (the same year where most were still using MIDI or sequenced music like in Ocarina of Time or MGS).

The Dreamcast's musical library is definitely one of the best in modern gaming history. You've got Daytona USA, Marvel vs Capcom, Street Fighter Alpha 3, and the (in my opinion) best soundtrack of any game at the time: Jet Set Radio.

Still hum Jet Set Radio music 20+ years after completing it on Dreamcast and never listening after that

Voted for Crazy Taxi. Only because I woke up today and had The Offspring stuck in my head.

Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica.
Man I forgot all about RE: CV! I remember that ost being especially tense and atmospheric, even by Resident Evil's standards. Good pick :)

Agreed...although personally that variety in sound design & sheer musical artistry was a quality I felt SEGA sound teams as a whole exemplified from the Saturn years all the way throughout the Dreamcast (and beyond).

I think you should've used quotes.

I found up a similar comment under one of the SA1 ost that said:

Looking through SA1's OST makes me realize how underappreciated it is. Not because it's not liked enough, but because nobody seems to talk about how revolutionary this soundtrack is for a video game released in 1998. I can't think of any other game released that year or before with as much music diversity and next-gen cutting edge type of music with this much of a "umph" to it, in combination with it having multiple genres like rock, jazz, techno, rap, etc. all fitted into a game that's under 1GB. Now we have Sonic 4 and Forces that regresses instead of evolving like this game by giving us crappy Sega Genesis twang emulation in music. Going from Sonic 3 and Knuckles, or even 3D Blast to SA1 is the biggest jump this franchise has ever made in every way, gameplay, music, graphics, storytelling, you name it and it probably will remain that way forever.
