What would be the best batteries for an LCD-screen-modded Game Gear?

I'm a big proponent of people using interchangeable batteries, so whatever rechargeable form of AAs you can find. I use 6 Amazon Basics Ni-MH 1.2V, 2400mA batteries and since the voltage drops over time you still get working low-battery warnings on GG, GB, etc. I have a stock screen and a flash cart, so I don't know if their slightly lower voltage would conflict with the screen though, though Li-On ones should probably work too (although you'd lost the low-battery functionality for the power LES).

Being able to just swap out batteries is so much more convenient for me than having to recharge the device itself.

I looked it up and this LCD says:
"Update! 11hrs 37minutes on 80% brightness (plenty bright and crisp for indoor play) on Aldi brand 2400mAh NiMh cells."

I am currently using Varta batteries in my Game Gear, but I have a problem with it shutting down randomly, even when using a Master System AC adapter

Sounds like possibly a capacitor issue on the device if it's doing it with the AC adapter. I hear the GGs capacitors are kinda' bad and see cap replacement kits sold pretty frequently. Any idea if you could open it up and check for bloated caps or anything?

Yeah, but when I bought this from eBay, the listing said it had new components. When I messaged the seller about the random shutdowns, they said it was tested for several hours

He also said that I should try using an AC adapter specifically made for the Game Gear

Maybe something happened while it was on its way to you? Could be anything, like a connection or solder joint getting screwed by all the shaking in transport.

I ordered another AC adapter yesterday to see if it works with it

It was packed very well and arrived quickly

I might open it up tomorrow because it's midnight here where I live

This is why original hardware is not always best. Most portables pre-DS are going to have battery issues that can't be solved easily. It's better to use a portable emulation system instead so that you can just recharge it as well as use less power in the process.

I got my AC adapter, but it still isn't working right. I sent a message to the eBay seller and now I am waiting for an answer

I have to send my console back to the seller to fix it

I did send my console back. I did pay 32 euros for postage

Sometimes that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Now I have to wait two weeks for the eBay seller to receive the console and fix the Game Gear. Then, the eBay seller will send the Game Gear back to me, which will also take two weeks. Only then can I play more Sonic games on the Game Gear

Seller got Game Gear, but he did say that Game Gear didn't have any shutdown problems when he tested it for several hours using an AC adapter and batteries

I've still got the gamegear I had when I was a kid. Didn't know people were modding em and stuff. Gotta look into this now.

I'm guessing the issues are related to the caps or the quality of soldering the seller did to the unit.
The original glued on square caps have surface mount pads where as most of the cap kits sold are through-hole components. I have seen others damage pads or even pull up traces when trying to replace the capacitors on the Game Gear.

Late update: I got the Game Gear month ago back, but it's still not working
