Beatles Fans?

I have mixed emotions about the Beatles. They were a great and very creative band but I feel like their importance is regularly overstated and they always seem to get all the credit for musical innovations lesser known bands pioneered before them.

Admittedly I’m a bit biased too because I find everyone in the band but George and Yoko incredibly unlikable, but reducing the most creative decade in rock history to "the Beatles invented it" feels almost criminal and with how prevalent and dominant their mythos is in pop culture this is only going to get worse.

Well, John Lennon is a giant douche and he beat up Yoko physically. It is a topic of some of the songs (like Getting Better and Jealous Guy) and I thought it was tongue in cheek but no, it turns out he was actually abusive. I'm surprised you dislike Paul, though, he seems like the most likeable Beatle. And nobody has anything bad to say about Ringo, other than his lackluster drumming.

And yeah they stole music from African American blues musicians on the regular, but they are hardly the only band to do so. At least they gave those musicians credit, unlike Led Zeppelin that was regularly ripping off tunes directly from other bands and not giving them credit.

I mean yeah that goes without saying but I was specifically talking about what other innovative bands of the day like the beach boys or the kinks were doing that the Beatles still got credit for. As a producer myself I also feel like George Martin is like 70% of what made their work great so maybe count him as my favorite beatle.

I probably would have liked Ringo back in the day and as a drummer myself I think his rep as a bad drummer is completely unearned, but everything I’ve seen of him and how he has presented himself since makes him come off like a pompous prick.
I’m not trying to be a contrarian mind you, the Beatles were great but I’m having mixed feelings about the phenomenon and the narrative around them. There’s also this whole misogynistic anti-Yoko thing that’s tied into it which is a completely different can of worms…

Praise John Lennon!

Huge fan of The Beatles. I have several of their albums on vinyl.

Obligatory 'best album' opinion: Sgt. Pepper.

I like everything from Rubber Soul onwards but there's some stuff from Help! And A Hard Day's Night I like as well. I'm not really a fan of any of their solo stuff. Yellow Submarine's also a great movie and The Magic Christian's all kinds of fucked up.

I also tend to believe the whole theory about Paul dying and being replaced. Record companies are evil and greedy and stuff like that is definitely not beyond something they would do.

If that theory’s true then good, that gave us Ram. /j

if you're a beatles fan then i think you would enjoy my compleat beatles remake documentary, i replaced all the pics and videos in this and gave it some much needed updating in quality and footage.

I used to be a fan of the Beatles until i listened to Magical Mystery Tour and Paul McCartney called my mother old.
