I really love the gamecube, but i don't think its worth spending close to a retail price of like a 15-20 year old games like this, plus the discs might end up having disc rot in the next 10 years or so. I mean sure we have emulation which is a Dolphin emulator which that's good as long as you have a decent PC. But the problem is when it comes to Nintendo they just being D**kheads when it comes to emulation, which is pretty selfish of them considering Nintendo makes alot of money yearly and if they are that strict with emulation where else we supposed to preserve our games. I mean sure NSO is bring in gamecube games on Switch 2 but not everyone has the money to buy switch 2 because of its high price point, and i don't think not every gamecube game will be on there unless its popular Like Super mario Sunshine, or Smash bros melee which are most likely to be on there. Anyways, what are your thoughts on the prices for physical gamecube right now compared to 12+years old which are cheaper and affordable.

I've bought a few over the years, but they were more unpopular and less desirable ones. Although, I did snag Metroid Prime & Mario Sunshine from a thrift store CIB and in really good condition for very cheap last year.

The thing does come down to the few that I really want to play being like $500-$1000, and that is just unreasonable. NSO being the only other option is also unreasonable to me. That isn't accessible with how the internet is in my country.

Thankfully, a friend of mine was willing to lend me their copy of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance back in the days before I could even use a Gamecube emulator. But now, I can use said emulator if I am really interested

I think this happens to every console? The time to buy is when the next hardware hits and people are trading their stuff in to get the next system. If you wait beyond that, you can always expect to pay more. Though, I'm curious to know how it is you think emulation has something to do with the price of games on the secondary market, and legit preservation can be done with a single copy.

retro gaming isnt fun anymore social media ruined it. I still like retro hardware but actually buying games for it is stupid

My opinion about it is beyond Gamecube.

For now people can realistically own original hardware to play games "somehow", but there will be a time when naturally these physical devices will stop working without any way to repair them. That's when emulation comes in.

If Nintendo has the mission to end emulation and thus prevent game preservation then there is no choice but to destroy Nintendo!!!! That's why I stole Nintendo's building!!! lolol:

As for games, there will be a time it will be impossible to find games that actually works, which is where console modding comes in to play digital copy of games on the console and of course where emulation is important. It means the goal is not piracy, it's to play games when it's the only way to play them.

As for the prices of games, depending on the country they are either decent or "WTF". For example such stuff was always expensive for my country and whatever is old became tool for scammers, so people find out they somehow have old stuff and they just try to sell it for insane prices and when they can't sell it they don't attempt to reduce prices so people would buy or the game stays there with intense price. Same shit for consoles too. For example due to its popularity in 2nd-hand market PS3 was always "shit no one would buy it on 2nd-hand market when you can add little more money and buy its non-used one on the damn shop" and now PS3 is not sold around the prices got too intense like they selling a car lol. And Nintendo consoles are super rare here so hard not many people would know what is SNES and N64 but because if its their prices so extreme, but because people know what is Gamecube its price is more extreme. It would be waaaay cheaper for me to pay for plane ticket to go to Japan and buy it there lolol.

Now I see an interesting aspect of 2nd hand market regarding Nintendo games. Because Nintendo started to sell their old games on NGO and ported way and whatnot people were like "shit we gotta sell our physical games before Nintendo sells these games for Switch" which relatively benefit people who wanna buy these games cheap. It's kinda because of that price of consoles "slightly" getting cheaper too yet it may be too insane for some. But on the other hand Nintendo introducing old games to new generation begets a new "retro culture" for making them wanna collect old consoles and games which also causes a factor on why prices can increase depending on market appeal. Yet the market is so BS it will be in a way people will mostly sell non-functional consoles and games that mostly their repairs will be impossible.

Yeah it does suck whats become of the retro market these days. Thankfully with things like emulation you can pretty much play GC games as near perfect as original hardware. I'm just grateful as well that most of my favorite games on there I still have the physical copies of from when I was a kid, especially games like Pikmin 2. When I saw how much a near mint or even good copy goes for now... 😬

I'm kickin' myself for no longer having my old copy of Pokemon XD from when I was a kid ::dkfacepalm :loldog

I still kick myself for having a copy of that AND Colosseum but then trading them in for store credit at a game shop that doesn't even exist anymore 😔
I did the same, but I at least lucked out a few years ago in getting another copy of Colosseum for a reasonable price::peacemario

It’s increasingly evident that social media, while originally designed to connect people and democratize information, has evolved into a force that often undermines meaningful communication, distorts reality, and accelerates social fragmentation. Platforms that were once celebrated for enabling global dialogue now contribute to widespread misinformation, performative behavior, and algorithm-driven echo chambers that reinforce biases rather than challenge them. The pressure to curate a perfect online persona can erode self-esteem, while the constant exposure to sensationalized content can desensitize users to nuance and empathy. In many cases, social media amplifies outrage, trivializes complex issues, and reduces genuine discourse to viral soundbites. While it’s not inherently evil, the way it’s structured, prioritizing engagement over accuracy, virality over depth, often leads to outcomes that feel corrosive to both individual well-being and collective understanding. So yes, in many ways, social media does seem to ruin everything it touches, not because of the technology itself, but because of how it’s designed and used.

That's good. Last GC game I bought was about 4 years ago now off of eBay. It was the GC version of Twilight Princess (I had the Wii version as a kid) as pretty much as close to mint as possible, outside of being factory sealed of course, but I'm talking the disc, manual, poster and even the little club Nintendo leaflets that used to come with some games all for a very good price (I'll be honest; I don't think the guy really knew what he had lol).

Yeah, that's usually the only time you can get something like that for a decent price!

One 2nd hand shop in my town are cunning, but fair. They'll research what something roughly goes for on eBay and undercut that, usually by half price.
The big downside there is being in the right place at the right time for anything really good ::sailor-embarrassed but it has happened a few times over the years

I don't think real hardware is worth it anymore. Yes there's no experience like real hardware, but these days it's too expensive and too unreliable. It's just not worth it for the vast majority of people since emulators are just fine if you just want to play the game.
