That's up to the PS2/Gamecube era. The OLED screen is absolutely perfect/beautiful for the GB/GBC/SNES/GENESIS/PSX/N64/DC/PS2/GC/SATURN, etc... You won't find anything better, possibly ever. If you're looking for your perfect dream machine to play only those mentioned, it's this device. Now, that doesn't mean it can't play anything other than those systems mentioned. This device has insanely powerful horsepower to play a lot of the modern games on it. Problem is, systems like the Switch, PSP, PC games are meant for 16:9 screens. The Pocket DMG screen is perfect for 8:7/4:3 screens. You can still play the modern stuff on it, it will just look small, so if you have bad eyesight, it's better to look elsewhere like the Odin 2 or Steamdeck. Other then that, another bad news is the cost. If you want your dream device, like your dream car, or house, you will need to pay the price. Starting price is $420 with 8 gigs of RAM. For most people, this is more than enough. If you want to play alot of the more demanding Switch, some PS3, and PC games on it, which I don't really recommend tbh, there are the 12GB, and 16GB RAM options that will cost up to $600.

So yeah, there's your end game dream device if you want to play those consoles mentioned on it in handheld form. Nothing else will beat it. Possibly ever. And yes, the system is more than capable enough to play your most demanding Saturn, Gamecube, PS2 games with 1080 to 4K resolution at full speed. If there are issues, it will be the limit of the emulator, not the hardware. In which case, you'll need to wait for better versions of those emulators to be released in the future.

sept the price lol can get the same playability for half the price

How does it compare to the retroid pocket pro 4?
In terms of power, it blows it out of the water following it with a shoryuken. Price wise RP4 is much cheaper

Well yeah. Same reason why ppl buy Lamborghinis, Bugatti, Benz, any car is enough to take you places right? Its all preference, and wanting the super premium in that field if you can afford it. Nobody needs an Ayaneo Pocket DMG. But the option is there.

I gotta ask, how long have you been using it?

My biggest concern with anything Ayaneo is the fact that in my experience they cost way more than they are worth, they suck at actually sending out replacement parts, and the actual devices will typically start to fail within 6 months to a year.

I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong here, but I have to say that $400+ for the device is already giving me major red flags. I'd wanna see what users where saying in half a year before I even considered sinking this kind of money on this company again.

About a week now. No issues. I wouldn't worry about this build breaking in the future unless I drop it onto a concrete floor multiple times.

yeah it's not necesasrily flimsyness that was the issue.

Honestly, with it being a retro-focused device, you might get away with it. My experience was with one of their windows 11 handheld PCs, and the issue was to do with heat dissipation, boot stability, and the deadly spicy pillow disease.

Still waiting on my replacement battery for my 2S. My fingers are crossed that you have no similar issues that will require you to wait for replacement parts::peacemario

I am sorry to disappoint but this handheld has a few flaws:
  • Resolution is meaningless for this screen size. 1240x1080 is absurd for barely 4"
  • Aspect ratio of 8:7 is wrong. If true that you will get square pixels, but old consoles had to be seen on 4:3 screens, there were no 8:7 TV's.
  • The console is powerful enough to emulate widescreen consoles, such as GBA, PSP or Wii, but the screen aspect ratio is just wrong.
  • The amount of RAM is useless. You would need 8GB for emulating platforms such as Wii U or Switch, but the screen is not panoramic, so it would be useless with such a small screen. For emulating platforms that are 4:3 you only need 2GB of RAM. Even if you want to upscale and do fancy stuff, you would need 4GB tops.
  • It uses Android. You could have some use of those 8GB of RAM with Android games, but phones have 16:9 aspect ratio, with new ones being wider so the problem aggravates even more. Then it's a no-no for playing most Android games.
And all of this for 400€. Looking at it, I feel like Switch 2 is cheap :O

Cheap retrohandhelds were created for a reason. This swarm of overpriced devices have no other value than bipolarize the market, in one side the devices that do what they are meant to do with some quality flaws but very affordable, and in the other the devices that have outrageous prices that even so have their own flaws that are not quality wise. The latter is full of hooligans that despise cheap devices just for the sake of justifying their investment.

Oh God, one of these. You repeated my points of it's flaws. Also, I have this system, and experiencing it first hand. You on the other hand are going off on clips you see on YT, and what you read on reddit, often from other ppl don't have the system as well. I've made it clear, Ayaneo Pocket DMG isn't something that is needed, but a luxury for anyone that can afford it.

"This is awesome."

"Well actually, it's not."

"Oh, do you have it too?"

"No."

I think the Pocket DMG is cool but after owning (and selling) dozens of these devices I just don't think vertical handhelds are all that comfortable.

Even with horizontal handhelds I typically need a plastic grip.

I also feel products from Anbernic and Retroid are the best choices for 99% of people because their designs have been iterated on so many times after so much customer feedback. They are also very reasonably priced.

Sometimes you buy a device and it seems good at first but months later you start to get annoyed by some small issue - like the dpad not being in quite the right place, the buttons or triggers dont have the feel you want, it's a little too top heavy, etc etc.

The only devices I own now are the Retroid Pocket 5 (the GOAT handheld as far as I'm concerned) and the Odin 2 Portal. It's hard to ever see myself buying another device at this point.

Yes, one of these. I am not blaming you for having tons of money and wanting to buy exclusive things because yes, I am just saying what the device is.

Ahh, and no, I haven't read any Reddit or watched any Youtube video as you say, I just looked up an article to see the specs, which are usually articles that quote specs of hardware and nothing more. From that I had enough info to write what I did, which is objective information based on specs of things mentioned. I know how emulation works, and the requirements of every platform, there is no single sentence giving a subjective opinion of the device.
