Movies Awesome movies ruined by the ending

We all know the karate kid is Johnny Lawrence, not that stupid boy who knew nothing about karate.
He ruined his career as an athlete, winning a competition in which he had nothing to do.
Were you just unfrozen from the early 2010s or something?
I swear people who repeat this meme ad nauseam have never even seen the movie

I'm still not sure how to feel about 10 Cloverfield Lane's ending. I haven't decided it's even a bad ending, it's just such a... derailment. I enjoy how the ending actually got alluded to way earlier in the movie and I like that "wait, what!?" feel, but it's just so... completely different from the rest of the movie it sort of makes the movie feel like it goes nowhere.

I really liked where "I Saw the TV Glow" felt like it was going and I was pretty invested, and I absolutely HATE what it ended up being and how it was handled. I felt lied to by the advertising and everyone who had recommended it to me.

If it counts, I really like the opening of The Dark Knight Rises and a fair bit of the first half, but that movie rapidly becomes a bit of a dumpster fire that totally sabotages itself by trying to be unexpected as well as trying way too hard to up the last one. It's just a mess.

One I saw recently that I honestly didn't really care for in general was Pom Poko. The reason I bring it up is the very ending, like the LAST line of the entire film. The whole movie is super heavy handed about a specific message, the entire plot is entirely focused on this ONE ideal... and the final line literally has a character look at the screen, break the fourth wall talking to the audience, and basically say "Yeah, that message doesn't matter." So while it's not a movie I liked that suddenly gets ruined, it's a movie I was pretty "meh" on that made me unexpectedly hate it.

Pay It Forward. Great message and good movie. Ending was not very good.

Glass. I won't say much more as I do not want to ruin it for anyone who may want to watch it. Suffice to say I didn't care for the end.

EXCEPT.
I absolutely cannot stand the ending, it ruins everything for me. T_T
Every time I think of this movie I'm like "yes I love it must re-watch it again" but then certain scene from the ending with awful CG flashes into my mind and it's all over for me.

It ruined the whole thing with the orange grove. John Cusak's dying words to Amanda Peet were "I see you in an orange grove". Then she gets her orange grove. Only to have it completely ruined by the kid which causes the real world murderer to lose what peace he had attained and any sympathy you had for him. He murders the cops transporting him if I remember correctly. Or it's at least implied. Totally ruined the film for a cheap end of story scare. I hate that kind of thing. It stopped being scary when I was 10.

For me one of the worst offenders is Rock Star. It should have ended when Chris hands the mic to a fan and walks off the stage. That would have been perfect. He stood up for himself after realising that fame wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Especially if you had no musical freedom and were essentially Johnny Bravo: Metal Edition.

I mean the Johnny Bravo from that episode of The Brady Bunch where Greg becomes a popstar only because he fits the suit. Not the cartoon.

I admit I mainly watched Rock Star for the cameos. But I enjoyed the story. It was kind of like an extended version of Tom Petty's Into The Great Wide Open music video. But the ending with Chris becoming a poser for different music styles was lame. He was supposed to be finding himself. But it felt really fake. Especially since metal artists going alternative to fit the changing times was a running joke and it seldom worked out well.

Not just the ending, it's rather the whole second half of it. I hate whoever wrote it.

I have close friends who I met from forums from a long time ago, and it wouldn't be for several years till we got to meet each other personally for the first time. It was a very unique feeling, one this movie had the opportunity to replicate. Sometimes it's alright to just give a good ending, and it would have felt especially rewarding in a comically depressing movie like this one. But nope, let's go for the shock value one more time.

Two words: "My Girl" (1991).

It was a devastating ending to a movie that wasn't even threatening to go down that route.
I haven't watched it in some time, but I thought it was a daring choice when I watched it (which would have been ~2 years after release). Adult me would probably feel different, though.

Allison from the Breakfast Club (1985) changing her look went against the message of the movie. A real downgrade, too. I love weird girls like her. ::unhappy
I totally agree with you, but at the same time, this was a John Hughes film. You can not expect Hughes to not promote the status quo. He was known to be a huge supporter of the status quo in private despite trying to look "rebellious" in public. And he put his real feelings into the text and/or subtext of his work frequently. The audience missed this often mainly because the target audience for his films were mostly teens (in the 80s) and young kids (in the 90s). It's only recently that anyone seems at all suspicious of what he was getting at with Home Alone 2, and that seems to be mainly because of a small cameo, not all the anti-homeless nonsense (including the seemingly "pro-homeless" stuff) throughout the film. But his other films are full of that sort of stuff that just isn't noticed at all.

I think Dune : Part Two's ending completely ruined the movie for me.

In the books, Alia, Paul's sister, is already born, she's a kid altered with the Water of Life drug, an Abomination with full access to her genetic memory. And most importantly, she kills her grandfather baron Harkonnen herself, but in doing so she facilitates the persona of the baron to take over and reincarnate himseld in the child. I dont know why Villeneuve self-censored himself. It completely ruins the narrative arc of two major protagonists.

Also, as much as I love Christopher Walken's, casting the guy as a cameo for Shaddam emperor was just a flat joke. Why they also put on his head the same wig they used for balls of fury... XD

It's really weird, the fact that in 2025, the only good version of Dune you could get is a fan edit of an old movie and lost media archives. We must live in the wrong continuum. Anyway, SpiceDiver's version is awesome, puts Villeneuve to shame really.

hercule poirot the serial. Ending wasn't what I accepted, fill me with empty felling.
The green miles, the ending was so sad.
The silence of lambs....really horor to me but when I find out what Dr said in end it fills no more is coming.
Silent hill2, whole movie was so great but in end.....what exactly happened? More despair.... I love when Pyramid head appear in the movie but he wasn't a Main part of story anyway.

This movie, I wanted to like it, but the ambiguity in the middle of the movie and the terrible CG smoke near the end, plus the actual ending, makes me not want to go through it again.

Didn't see it but endings are good series can be so bad because the writer feel tired and they always say " ending and start is important things"
