For those who are able, do y'all ever go to any conventions? Whether attending panels, meeting some of your favorite industry personalities, playing some games or finding some good deals on physical goodies I have always loved the atmosphere of in-person events!

I've been someone who goes to various tournaments as a spectator/competitor for a while and I occasionally hit up Too Many Games or Magfest on years where it makes sense.

I'm attending Frosty Faustings this weekend and I'm super excited! Its a big fighting game tournament focused primarily on anime games like Guilty Gear, Melty Blood, Darkstalkers and more. I'm attending as staff so I won't be competing but I plan on squeezing as much time on the setups for Persona 4 Arena and Under Night as I can hehe.

Just TwitchCon for me so far. Not necessarily about retro games but they do often have particular meetups, a decent amount of PS1-PS2 era gamers at the horror games meetup for example. Really only makes sense for streamers or mega fans who live close enough IMO but a lot of fun.

Didn't expect to find much there to actually buy but my most recent year there, there was a games vendor and I ended up buying Galerians: Ash and MGS 3 as much for souvenirs as anything

I've never been into one of those really BIG events unfortunately, even though I wanted to. Where I did go to would be a mall and basically gaming stores y'know

For example, recently I went to the store called impulse (located inside of Paradigm Mall). It's not a big store unfortunately and it can't be too crowded. But I love just seeing those consoles (that I can't buy) with those headsets, controllers, toys and even those handhelds like the Anbernic, Rog Ally, etc.

It's still a pretty fun experience though ::dkapproves

I work security for a couple of conventions within about 200 miles of where I live. Nothing so large as an event like Frosty Faustings, but it is a good time. One is a general nerd-dom convention with its origins as a creative writing event. It gets about 2k-ish people. The other is a new but growing cosplay convention, roughly 1k attend.
Not much of a con-goer however. Without a task to focus on my anxiety gets the best of me after a couple of hours.

I’ve never been to a convention — of any sort — but in 2013, me and the fam were on a cruise around the French peninsula, and I got to go to that year’s Gamescom. (Essentially the European E3.) It was actually really cool to teenage Gorse — this was right when they were about to launch the Xbox One, so Microsoft had this whole massive spread of games, events, and discussions to attend, and I had a ton of fun.

Ubisoft was a huge presence there too, of course, and I got a first glimpse at Rayman Legends, which immediately sold me on the game — playing the co-op mode with some trendy 25-year-old guys who didn’t speak a lick of English was hilarious, and everyone seemed really pumped about everything that was shown. As you may have guessed from the time period, there was also a TON of Kinect bullshit, and my sister and cousins got to school everyone at the Just Dance version of Blurred Lines (the uncensored music video of which was playing on all the monitors, which was awesome).

I unfortunately was limited to what events I could attend, as I didn’t have a press pass, but they still put a ton of effort in for the plebians. I remember that day very fondly. I don’t even know if Gamescom is still a thing, nor do I care to check.

That's a nice story and memories man, also on the year before Xbox's downfall? That's crazy ::poggurai

How I wish I could experience that kind of stuff, I love reading this kind of message ::dkapproves
