As a reminder for anyone born from 1980-1999

Like while the ipod swept the nation you probably dont know that before that, folks would just make their own MP3 players for their home stereo system or sometimes car system. Nerd and Geeks were actually capable back then with massive skill sets where as now adays you can just buy into being one.
Yeah. It was a popular thing to wire Sega Genesis into cars and enjoy video game musics everywhere you go lol. Back then you could use Sega Genesis as music player especially thanks to be able to select any music in the game via options menu. So it wasn't rare thing to see such things. Who didn't just listened to music via Sega Genesis while they did their hobbies and even studying math? I was listening to this when I was studying for exams lol:

And then I know a guy who turned PS2 into "portable DVD player". People were carrying PS1 around to listen to music in friends' house lol.

Damn I never watched the Postal movie before but now you're making me want to do it
Do it, unironically some of Uwes best work. Unapologetic if not missing the mark half the time.

Absolute peak sorta time capsule of a movie

No shit? I never actually heard of that but I dont blame em givin that sound chip was absolute fucking fire back in the day. I wish I coulda been older to hear car systems like that fuuuuuuuuuckkkkkk

Also right? A lot just had em as DVD players, hell I even had a power converter and slide over screen for my PS2 so on family road trips, I was in the back playing Dot Hack with a PS2 in my lap like the chunkiest AC powered laptop you ever seen.

Man I miss when the novelty of fun tech was still there. Or back when it was just a bit more fun and a bit less insidious.

Now my friend let me tell you about car culture of 80s but no need for history lesson of 50s lol. Long story short either way we knew adults who turned their vehicles into a home and thus there was "portable home" culture. In our generation it evolved into "carry your hobby everywhere you go" so we made our cars a portable music blasters with huge speakers. And then we started to modify our cars for better performance and speed. Soon after we found ourselves in street racing culture of modern days in a technological twist. Back then street racing was for bet, but in our generation it was more about making cars evolve so it evolved into car modifications love in however way people want. In that context it was a thing that some people turned their vehicle into portable video game machines and using Sega Genesis and whatnot as music player was just the tip of iceberg lol.

Every country has their similar culture but Japan was the most crazy one. For example in first Fast and Furious movie you can see the tip of iceberg of this car culture. The guy even plays PlayStation 1 in his car and it wasn't unrealistic for that time lol:

So playing video games in cars was a thing and because of it portable PS1 and even official special PS2 you can play in your car was a thing. Check Audiovox VOD10PS2.

However unlike how video games can show how street racing and car love of that era was it was actually way crazier than video games portrayed and closest game about it is Racing Lagoon lol.

Oh no no Im familiar with the days of tuner culture pre FnF. Car guys were legit the apex peak of making shit work but I just never knew in particular they woulda used the Genesis as a player.

My dad was big into tuner culture and fuck, we used to watch Pimp My Ride like a religion.

And yeah no closest is Racing Lagoon, its why I go practically every year I can to attend the meeting with the Warriors.

Like I said, I just never heard of a Genesis use case, I knew by the time of disk media it was gettin big but I never saw much of the SNES Genesis area when it came to car culture. Honestly so little of that is even archived I realize now how I missed it and, like, of course why wouldnt you do that back then, just, fascinating~

Old generation tuner dudes always get my highest fucking respect. They were on the bleeding edge of it all, sound video, literal neon lighting, mods both cosmetic and power in an era where importing shit from Japan was a bitch and a half. Those dudes were some of the most dedicated hobbiest Ive ever seen.

I guess American car culture was specific to cars per se, they didn't wanna merge tech much. Still American car culture is important in many ways like this lol:

And only game that had the best of such American car culture was Test Drive Eve of Destruction lol.

i guess we're (those born from 1980 to 1999) the remaining remnants of a world that didn't fall into the darkest depths of insanity.::sadkirby
Well I jumped into the abyss of insanity screaming "geronimo" long time ago, and I pity those who never go crazy to actually enjoy their lives!!! Life is already ironic and crazy so don't resist, join the club lol. Choose your insanity, choose it well!!!

Talk about Nostalgic...unfortunately I was born this period, and believe me....Be very happy, I had to survive the disco era....which won't lie, I still have my 8 track player and still listen to it sometimes.

There has never been a greater era, than the one you are living in.....

Now, while I may be a

, I do wish I coulda seen the Disco Era. I dont think we ever really recovered from the death of Disco. I mean, Im slightly thankful for it as it ended up birthing House, Garage and other genres like French touch but mannn....it seems like such a crazy time.

We've seen at least 20 once-in-a-lifetime financial crises and end-of-the-world prophecies though. That's gotta count for something seeing how statistically poor they made us.
Damn I love you.

You just get it XD

And my parents told me that hard work would make things easier and better.

From what I can see, it didn't matter what anyone did.
It does make things easier and better... for your employers

To think that all of that is far behind us now. Gone like tears in the rain.

Idk, drugs & sex, still feels the same. Unless you lived in New York & feared for your life since the mob ran everything including politics.

I remember when vehicles had consoles for example the N64 & PS2.

Being born 98 means I technically missed out on everything. I only got to experience the ruins of what once was.

I was born in '81 and I remember frequently having to upgrade everything.
Cassettes -> CDs
CDs -> MP3s
VHS -> DVD
DVD -> Blu Ray

Plus now I sound like an old man when I complain that cars need physical knobs and dials. Why does everything have to be a screen?

-_- I just saw i messed up, I wasN'T born in that period, more Black and White Tv era with the 3 channels.

I remember hearing about Y2K for so long, that when it did finally become 2000, and my mom said it was time for us kids to go to bed, I was like "...that's it?"
Well, to be fair, high tech folks had a bit of a panicked rush to change the time formatting so important computers didn't overflow and ruin scheduling in a way that it would lead to loss of life. 64 as opposed to 32 bit if I recall.
