I am really, really bad at making comfortable and easy to use controller layouts for any game that uses a Wiimote and nunchuck. I need a gamepad layout for the Wii game Wii Fishing Resort.

If you can get a comfortable to use and easy to understand controls configuration whipped together for me in Dolphin, I'll buy you something! I'm still trying to come up with how much I'd pay for this, but it'd be like £10-£15.

From the Dolphin forums, someone was using this on their Xbox 360 controller when setting it up.
Would be better just using a Wii Remote

Yeah, I've seen this and tried it before. It wasn't very useful and I found it pretty clunky. I was hoping maybe someone would be able to assist with getting a better setup!

One option is basically trial and error, using the wii remote on the right stick as the motion controls and the nunchuk on the left for reeling is the only option you can get on a gamepad. clicking down on the left stick for nunchuk reeling and C + Z buttons on the left bumper and left trigger. A + B buttons on the Wii Remote could go on A+B on the controller while 1+2 on X+Y on the gamepad. Right Bumper and Trigger could be for tilt or shaking on the wii remote or casting. 🤷‍♂️

Unless your controller has gyro and if Dolphin can take gyro controls its the only option i can think of.

I managed to catch a few fish with these settings I hammered out on my Xbox360 pad but honestly I wouldn't say it was a very fun experience. With all the tilting and swinging you really need a real wiimote for this game. The worst part is getting your guy to cast the fishing line. I had the most luck tilting my right stick up as far as it would go and then just letting go of it so that it returns to the neutral position on its own.

EDIT: Made some changes:

It doesn't look like the game uses the C and Z buttons so I repurposed triggers to a pretty good effect. You can either press the right trigger and let it go or press the right trigger, let it go and slam the left trigger as you do so to cast the line further. It's not perfect and it's not 100% reliable but it's much better than fiddling with the right stick was. This might actually be playable now though I would still probably recommend real hardware.

Cheers for this! Can you let me know how you'd compare your controls to the one that were posted above it from that other user on the Dolphin forums? I remember when I tried using that scheme that it was a bit of a cluster. I'll definitely compensate you for this, though! Let me know what you'd like to spend your £15 on. I'll buy it and send it to you in a PM.

EDIT: Actually, just PM me and we'll chat in private about what you'd like. You don't need to talk about it publicly.

Frankly, I haven't tried the control scheme Nebulon posted since the buttons are mapped in a way that's completely different to what I'm used to. I assume that setup mimics the real wiimote and nunchuck more closely than what I did. I'm surprised the nunchuck swing isn't mapped at all since you need that to reel in fish.

I've bought an actual Wiimote for like 8 bucks.

On the other hand a sensor bar with USB for PC may costs a bit more.
